Over time, Netflix has been responsible for creating and airing several captivating romantic dramas, which have turned out to be some of their most-watched series to date. Notably, “Virgin River” has garnered immense popularity on Netflix, with six seasons currently available and more in the pipeline. Similarly, “Sweet Magnolias” has managed to amass a considerable viewer base. This week, Netflix has added two complete seasons of a show that follows the pattern of these successful romantic productions, making it likely to become another favorite amongst their viewers, even though this particular series is not an original production by Netflix.
On Tuesday, Netflix debuted the first two seasons of “Sullivan’s Crossing,” and fans of romantic television shows and novels should be thrilled. For those unfamiliar, “Sullivan’s Crossing” is a Canadian series (now a collaboration with The CW) that is adapted from books written by author Robyn Carr, who is also known for the “Virgin River” series. The show revolves around a woman who finds herself in legal trouble and is compelled to go back to her small-town roots and confront her estranged father.
It’s clear that there are similarities between “Virgin River” and the mentioned show, considering they were both written by the same author. However, here’s an additional reason for fans of “Gilmore Girls” to get excited: The actor portraying Sully, the main character’s estranged father, is Luke Patterson. Now, if you’re familiar with “Gilmore Girls,” you might remember that Patterson played the memorable character of Luke, a grumpy coffee shop owner who was also Lorelai Gilmore’s romantic interest.
Regarding romantic characters, Sullivan’s Crossing features Chad Michael Murray portraying Cal Jones, a local charmer who catches the interest of Morgan Kohan’s main character, Maggie Sullivan.
Excitedly, I woke up on Tuesday morning to find that Netflix had dropped two seasons of Sullivan’s Crossing onto my screen! Now, with 20 captivating episodes at my disposal, I can’t wait to indulge in this engaging series. Although Season 3 has already graced our televisions, a premiere date on Netflix remains elusive for now. However, the good news is that Canada’s CTV recently renewed the show for a fourth season! Here’s hoping we won’t have to wait too long for more of this fantastic storytelling.
New on Netflix This Month
In July, Sullivan’s Crossing could potentially be one of Netflix’s most significant new additions, considering the success series like Virgin River have enjoyed on their platform for quite some time. However, it’s not the only significant title arriving at the beginning of the month; there are other big titles joining Netflix as well.
On the first day of July, Netflix welcomed a multitude of fresh contents, such as movies like “The Karate Kid”, “Anchorman”, and “Mission: Impossible”. For the complete list of Netflix’s new arrivals on July 1st, please see below.
As a film enthusiast, here’s my take on the list you provided:
I’ve watched quite an array of movies over the years. For instance, I’ve seen “17 Again,” “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” and its sequel “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.” If you’re into musicals, you might appreciate “Annie” (1982). Comedy fans will love “Blades of Glory,” “Blow,” “Good Burger,” “Happy Gilmore,” and “The Other Guys.”
If action is more your thing, there are the “Mission: Impossible” series, “Captain Phillips,” and “Pacific Rim.” For drama, I’d recommend “Born on the Fourth of July,” “The Deer Hunter,” and “The Notebook.”
I’ve also enjoyed some TV shows that were adapted from movies, such as “Friday Night Lights” and “Grown Ups.” Don’t forget about classics like “Coneheads,” “National Lampoon’s Animal House,” “Wayne’s World,” and “Tommy Boy.”
For animated shows, I’ve watched “PAW Patrol” seasons 2-3 and “Yellowjackets”: Season 2. If you’re into documentaries, check out “Attack on London: Hunting The 7/7 Bombers” and “Trainwreck: The Cult of American Apparel.”
And finally, there are some unique films like “The Karate Kid,” its sequels, “The Hitman’s Bodyguard,” “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard,” “Old School,” “Zathura: A Space Adventure,” “Tangerine,” and “Zoolander.” Hope you find something you enjoy!
