Stephen King is widely known as the master of horror, but his son, Joe Hill, is quickly becoming a significant figure in the genre as well. King launched his career in 1974 with his first novel, Carrie, and has since created a lasting impact on horror in both books and film. As King’s stories were adapted into popular movies and TV series like The Shining, his son followed a similar path. Hill’s work inspired a particularly frightening show, all 20 episodes of which are currently available on Netflix.
Both seasons of the chilling series NOS4A2 are now available on Netflix, starting October 29th. Originally airing on AMC from 2019 to 2020, the show is based on Joe Hill’s 2013 novel. It stars Zachary Quinto as Charlie Manx, a unique and terrifying villain who preys on children’s souls, imprisoning them in his twisted vision of Christmasland. When Vic McQueen, a young woman with the ability to find lost objects, discovers her power, she finds herself facing off against Manx.
NOS4A2 Is a Genuinely Scary Horror-Drama
NOS4A2 is more than just a good horror series—it’s genuinely frightening. The story centers around a truly terrifying immortal who preys on the souls of children. The show’s setting, Christmasland, is particularly unsettling, mixing the cheerful imagery of Christmas with a dark and disturbing reality where captured children slowly lose their innocence. The plot unfolds slowly, focusing on complex characters and family relationships, which builds intense psychological suspense and leads to truly scary moments, like the shocking ‘Scissors for the Drifter’ episode. The show offers a fresh and disturbing take on vampire lore, and the horror really intensifies in the second season.
Both seasons of Nos4A2 were well-received by both critics and viewers. The first season earned a 69% rating from critics and a 74% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The second season saw an increase in popularity, achieving a 75% critic score and an 89% audience score. If you enjoy Stephen King-style stories, this series is perfect for a binge-watch, especially with Halloween approaching and the holidays right around the corner – it’s a spooky yet festive blend!
Other Horror Titles Now on Netflix
October is here, and that means it’s time for spooky movies! Netflix is getting into the spirit with a lot of new horror titles added to its selection this month. You can stream seasons one and two of NOS4A2, along with classics like I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, The Strangers, and Night of the Living Dead. It’s the perfect way to build a scary movie marathon for Halloween.
