Netflix releases first-look trailer for new adaptation of Jo Nesbø’s iconic Harry Hole books

No crime drama is complete without a complex detective, and Netflix’s new thriller, Detective Hole, delivers just that. The series is based on the popular Harry Hole novels by Jo Nesbø.

Readers of the books will already be familiar with this intense main character, and a new trailer reveals how Hole handles his work – often at the expense of his personal life.

The preview introduces Tobias Santelmann, known from “The Last Kingdom,” as Hole, a man who spends his nights drinking and getting into fights. While his coworker acknowledges he’s skilled at his work, he’s not always successful in other areas of life.

Joel Kinnaman, known for ‘The Killing,’ plays Tom Waaler, a coworker of Hole. While Tom appears equally skilled at his job, it’s clear he’s keeping things to himself.

The pressure gets to Hole, and he visibly falls apart, physically destroying an investigation board with photos scattered around. You can see the moment in the video below.

We just learned last month that the new crime thriller series will be released on Netflix this March.

The series, based on the preview, focuses on both a main serial killer investigation and Detective Hole’s increasing distrust of his coworker, Waaler.

The series is a mystery about a serial killer, investigated by the well-known detective Harry Hole. But beyond the central crime, it’s a complex story about two police officers who are both colleagues and rivals, working on different sides of the law.

The story follows Harry, a gifted but troubled homicide detective, as he clashes with his nemesis, the corrupt detective Tom Waaler. Throughout the season, Harry battles his own inner struggles while trying to stop a serial killer and expose Waaler’s wrongdoing, all within a morally gray legal system. He’s in a race against time to catch both criminals before it’s too late.

Jo Nesbø, the popular author of the books the series is based on, is also involved as a creator and executive producer. This is the first time his bestselling novels have been adapted for television, and with thirteen books in the series, the Netflix adaptation has a lot of potential for future storylines.

Jo Nesbø shared his excitement about working with Tobias Santelmann to develop a new version of the Harry Hole character. He said they’ve created a fresh take on the character while staying true to the novels, and he can’t wait for audiences to see it.

Lead actor Santelmann expressed his excitement about playing Harry Hole, calling it both an honor and a challenging role. He praised Jo Nesbø’s detailed and intricate world and the complexity of the character. Santelmann feels grateful for the opportunity and hopes audiences will enjoy their interpretation of Harry Hole, describing the entire experience as a privilege.

Detective Hole’s cast also includes Ellen Helinder, Anders Baasmo, Kåre Conradi, Simon J Berger, Peter Stormare, Fridtjov Såheim, Eili Harboe, Atle Antonsen, Manish Sharma, Jesper Christensen, and Kristoffer Joner.
