With the 60th anniversary of the original Star Trek series coming up in 2026, fans are also learning some unfortunate news. Starting in January 2026, one streaming service will no longer offer any Star Trek content.
According to What’s on Netflix, all remaining Star Trek shows and movies will be removed from Netflix worldwide on January 8, 2026. Netflix removed Trek content in the U.S. back in 2022, and this change will now affect all regions. U.S. fans can still watch Star Trek on Paramount+.
For years, Netflix has been the place to stream the original Star Trek series, as well as The Animated Series, The Next Generation, Voyager, and Enterprise in most countries around the world. This access, which covered over 188 countries, will expire at the beginning of the new year.
Currently, Netflix is taking down all of the Star Trek TV series from its service worldwide, but the Star Trek movies are still available. The reason for removing the classic Trek shows isn’t clear, but many believe Netflix and Paramount couldn’t agree on a licensing deal for international distribution.
Classic Star Trek series will continue to be available on Paramount+ in select international regions. Currently, Star Trek: Enterprise is streaming on SkyShowtime in Europe. Paramount+ may also license the shows to other streaming services around the world, either currently or in the future.
A Modern Trek Show Was Also Pulled
Just before news broke that the original Star Trek series would be removed from Netflix globally, details emerged regarding its future. Currently, it’s unclear if the animated series Prodigy will return to its initial streaming home, Paramount+. Prodigy first premiered on Paramount+ in October 2021, after originally being planned for Nickelodeon. Despite the start of production on a second season, Paramount+ canceled the show. Netflix then picked up Prodigy in late 2023 and released Season 2 in 2024.
Even after its cancellation, Prodigy received a nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming. When the nomination was announced, the show’s creators, Dan and Kevin Hageman, both recognized the honor and acknowledged Netflix’s decision to end the series.
The creators of Star Trek: Prodigy expressed their gratitude to the Television Critics Association for nominating the show for an award in Family Programming. They shared that a lot of passion went into making the series and encouraged viewers to watch it on Netflix before it’s no longer available.
All the original Star Trek series will be removed from Netflix around the world on January 8, 2026. If you’re in the U.S., you can continue watching Star Trek on Paramount+.
