Netflix usually announces all its upcoming movies and TV shows each month, but occasionally, it surprises viewers by adding new releases with minimal promotion. Sometimes, major titles from the past are added to the platform without much fuss. This is exactly what happened on Monday when a classic horror film appeared on the streaming service.
As a cinema enthusiast, I was thrilled to wake up on Monday morning and discover that Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror masterpiece, “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” had joined Netflix’s lineup. This chilling slasher movie revolutionized the genre when it first graced our screens almost half a century ago, leaving audiences quivering in their seats and catapulting Leatherface into horror icon status, a fearsome figure that continues to haunt our nightmares even today.
Besides delighting Netflix subscribers with the inclusion of Hooper’s classic horror film, the arrival of Texas Chain Saw was perfectly timed. For enthusiasts of the movie, August 18th is known as Texas Chain Saw Day, marking the day when the film’s events unfold. This date is celebrated extensively for Texas Chain Saw, particularly in its home state, and it’s also shown on big screens in cinemas nationwide.
Over the past five decades, the Texas Chainsaw series has produced nine movies. However, only two of these films are accessible on Netflix at present. Among them is the latest addition from 2022, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which premiered exclusively on Netflix.
What’s New on Netflix
It’s possible that “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” took some viewers by surprise on Netflix, but this movie is merely one of numerous well-received releases gracing their library in August. Similarly, “Dazed and Confused,” a film about a group of Texas teenagers enjoying summer, was among many titles introduced to Netflix at the beginning of the month.
