As a longtime Netflix subscriber, I’ve definitely gotten used to the disappointment of shows being cancelled too soon – sometimes even good ones get the axe after just one season. So, I was really pleased to hear that one show, originally planned as a limited series, might actually get a second season! One of the actors even hinted at the possibility of returning, which is fantastic news for fans like me.
Toni Collette received critical acclaim for her role in the popular psychological thriller, Wayward, where she played the leader of a school for challenging teenagers. When ScreenRant asked about the possibility of continuing the show – something creator Mae Martin has hinted at – Collette enthusiastically confirmed she’d absolutely be involved if it happens.
Collette said they had a fantastic time and expressed enthusiasm for the possibility of working on something again. She mentioned she enjoys working with Mae and they’ve discussed ideas, though she believed the project was over. However, she’s now hopeful it might still happen, and she would definitely be interested in participating.
Wayward Delivered Big Time Views (And Divisive Opinions)
Wayward is set in the town of Tall Pines, which houses a school for troubled teenagers. Beneath the surface, the school is hiding many secrets, and the story unfolds through two separate investigations: one from outsiders looking in, and another led by two girls working to expose the truth from within.
When the series launched on Netflix in September, it quickly became popular, reaching the Top 10 globally with almost 50 million views. However, it’s also sparked a lot of debate, reflected in its mixed reviews on sites like Rotten Tomatoes.
Critics generally liked the show, giving it a score of 78%, but viewers were less impressed, with a score of only 46%. While people praised the show’s themes and acting, many felt the plot was weak, lacked excitement, and ended poorly. A second season isn’t confirmed, but there’s now a possibility it could happen.
