From 2017 to 2022, Ozark was a huge hit for Netflix, quickly becoming one of the platform’s most popular shows. With Jason Bateman and Laura Linney leading the cast, the series stood out for its intense story about a family caught up in the dangerous world of drug cartels. Now that Ozark is over, many viewers have been watching a five-season series on Netflix, but that show will soon be removed from the platform, leaving another gap for fans to fill.
For years, many Netflix viewers have been watching Queen of the South after finishing Ozark. However, that’s about to change. The crime drama, which first aired on USA Network from 2016 to 2022 and became available on Netflix in April 2022, is leaving the streaming service. Based on the Spanish-language series La Reina del Sur, the show follows Teresa Mendoza, played by Alice Braga, as she goes from a woman on the run to a powerful drug leader in Dallas after escaping to the U.S. following her boyfriend’s murder. Although a last-minute deal briefly extended its availability, all five seasons and 62 episodes of Queen of the South will no longer be available on Netflix after April 7th.
Queen of the South Is an Addictive Crime Drama That’s Perfect for Ozark Fans
As a big fan of shows like Ozark, I totally get why Queen of the South has become so popular. Honestly, they feel like two sides of the same coin. Both series really pull you in with their intense cartel drama, and what I especially love is watching seemingly normal people get drawn into a world of crime. In Ozark, it’s the Byrdes gradually becoming more and more involved, while Queen of the South shows Teresa’s incredible journey from someone just trying to survive to a powerful, and sometimes ruthless, leader. And neither show pulls any punches – the stakes are incredibly high, and betrayal is always around the corner. If you loved the gritty, suspenseful vibe of Ozark, you’ll definitely find that same energy in Queen of the South.
Overall, Queen of the South was a big hit with viewers. Although it doesn’t have a critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience rating is a strong 88%, even a bit higher than Ozark‘s 82% score. While Queen of the South isn’t as critically acclaimed as Ozark, it’s just as captivating, focusing on a more dramatic and glamorous climb to power. The show quickly grabs your attention and keeps you hooked with its intense, action-packed storylines and cliffhangers, making it ideal for binge-watching.
Where to Stream Queen of the South After It Leaves Netflix?
If you’re a fan of Queen of the South, now’s the time to watch it! The show is leaving Netflix on April 7th, making it harder to access. Currently, Netflix is the only place to stream it, and it wasn’t announced on any other major streaming services’ April lineups. While it might be available to stream again eventually, the only sure way to watch all the seasons will be to rent, buy, or own the show on DVD or Blu-ray.
