Netflix’s horror selection hasn’t historically been as robust compared to competitors like HBO Max and Prime Video, but that trend might worsen soon. The streaming titan has unveiled a list of movies and shows set to depart from their platform in September, and the early departures include what many consider the top modern horror film on Netflix.
On September 1st, Netflix will no longer have a collection of highly-acclaimed movies, among them being “Barbarian”, which debuted in 2022 and gained popularity due to its mix of grotesque elements and unexpected humor. Zach Cregger’s first film was praised for its audacious choices, solidifying his reputation as an innovative force in the genre. The success of “Barbarian” has contributed significantly to the box office performance of Cregger’s latest work, “Weapons”, this year.
This year, Barbarian made its debut on Netflix and quickly gained popularity among viewers. However, its time on the streaming platform is coming to an end soon – specifically, it will no longer be available starting September 1st. So, if you’ve been wanting to watch it and haven’t had the chance yet, now would be the perfect time! The movie will be taken off the platform by Monday morning, so don’t miss out.
Removing “Barbarian” at this moment seems to be a tough blow for horror enthusiasts. Not only does it coincide with the massive release of “Weapons,” potentially drawing viewers away from Barbarian, but it also happens during the start of Halloween season. This is an ideal period for watching horror films (though any time could work), and Netflix is set to lose one of its top choices in the genre.
