Netflix Users Have Just Days Left To Stream a Fan-Favorite Star Trek Series

The Star Trek universe is nearing its 60th anniversary, and while fans have a lot to look forward to – including a new live-action series called Starfleet Academy in 2026 and more TV shows and movies, including a final film featuring Chris Pine as Captain Kirk – one popular Star Trek show will soon be removed from Netflix.

After Season 1 finished airing over the summer, Season 2 of Star Trek: Prodigy will leave Netflix on January 1st, along with all other Star Trek shows available on the platform. Prodigy was a popular hit when it first appeared on Paramount+ in 2021. It’s notable as the first Star Trek series made specifically for younger viewers, following a group of young aliens in the 24th century. Netflix picked up the show after it was cancelled in June 2023, which allowed the 20-episode second season to be released.

Star Trek: Prodigy Is One of the Franchise’s Best Shows

Across decades of television and film, Star Trek: Prodigy stands out as one of the franchise’s strongest entries, particularly in recent years. With a 97% approval rating from critics and an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s the highest-rated Star Trek series ever, even better than Strange New Worlds. Prodigy successfully introduces new, younger viewers to the universe while still satisfying longtime fans with its authentic Star Trek feel. The show masterfully combines self-contained, exciting adventures with a larger, ongoing storyline, all while exploring classic Trek themes like hope, fairness, collaboration, and discovery, and featuring surprisingly well-developed characters – making it a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Season 1 of Star Trek: Prodigy was successful, but Season 2, despite being its last, surpassed it in quality. It received overwhelmingly positive reviews, earning a perfect 100% score from critics and a 94% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critic Jessie Gender called it “the best Star Trek season of the 21st century,” while Ryan Britt of Inverse praised its 20 episodes as being as good as any from the entire Star Trek franchise. The season featured a more complex time travel storyline and was packed with hidden references, connections, and appearances from familiar characters, making it especially enjoyable for longtime fans.

Where to Stream Star Trek: Prodigy After It Leaves Netflix?

Fans of Star Trek: Prodigy have a limited time to watch the show on Netflix. It’s leaving the streaming service in a few days, and finding it elsewhere will be tough. Currently, Season 1 isn’t available on any other platform, and when Season 2 is removed from Netflix on January 1st, both seasons will be unavailable for streaming.

Fans are hopeful that Star Trek: Prodigy will be back on streaming soon. While it hasn’t been officially announced, What’s on Netflix reports rumors that Paramount+ might acquire both seasons of the show around 2026, which would essentially bring it back to where it first streamed.
