If you enjoyed *Succession* and are searching for another captivating, slightly scandalous drama, you’re in luck! A hidden gem on Netflix is about to leave the platform. This crime drama has been available for two years, but next week it will no longer be available to stream as Netflix makes room for new content.
The crime drama *The Family Business*, created by Carl Weber, will be removed from Netflix on October 24th. All four seasons – a total of 42 episodes – will no longer be available. The show, which first aired on BET in 2018, follows the Duncans, a family who appear to be respectable car dealers but secretly run a criminal organization. It’s based on Weber’s popular book series and features Ernie Hudson and Valarie Pettiford in leading roles.
Why Is the Family Business Leaving Netflix?
Like many shows on Netflix, the upcoming removal of *The Family Business* is probably due to licensing. Because *The Family Business* isn’t made by Netflix, the company has to pay to license it from the studio that owns it. When those licensing deals end, shows get taken off the platform. Recently, BET started keeping its shows on its own streaming service, BET+, and stopped licensing them to Netflix, which led to many BET titles being removed. *The Family Business* was one of the few that continued streaming on Netflix thanks to a special agreement, but it looks like that agreement is about to end.
The cancellation of *The Family Business* is disappointing, particularly for those who enjoy crime dramas like *Succession*. Similar to that HBO hit, *The Family Business* offered a captivating look at a rich and troubled family battling for power. While BET’s series leaned more into the style of a soap opera, it delivered a dramatic and over-the-top story filled with rivalries, kidnappings, and complicated relationships. It was an addictive and enjoyable show, perfect for binge-watching.
Where To Stream the Family Business After It Leaves Netflix
Okay, fellow movie lovers, if you’re into *The Family Business*, heads up! It’s leaving Netflix soon, but don’t panic! You can still watch it. Paramount+ has the first three seasons, and if you want the whole five seasons, BET Plus is where it’s at. So plenty of options to keep up with the show!
