Poorly made thriller movies have always been around, consistently receiving negative reviews and low scores. Films like In The Name Of The King, Simon Says, and Rest Stop are prime examples of why those criticisms are justified. However, Lifetime’s recent attempt at thrillers, now available on Netflix, seems particularly disappointing.
The 2024 film Taken In Plain Sight recently reached 2.9 million views on Netflix, even making the top ten global list this week. Despite this, it didn’t receive enough ratings on Rotten Tomatoes to earn a score. Viewers who did watch the film generally disliked it, with one person calling it “absolutely horrible.” They criticized the acting, particularly the lead actress, and found the villain to be a predictable stereotype. The dialogue also felt unnatural, especially lines delivered by the child actor. Overall, the film was described as unoriginal, boring, and having a disappointing, cliché-filled ending, including a villain who needlessly explains their entire plan.
According To Audiences, It’s Bad…Really, Really Bad

I have to admit, the basic story of this movie felt instantly familiar – a mom relentlessly searching for her kidnapped daughter, finally believing she’s found the culprit, only to be ignored by the police and forced to take justice into her own hands. It’s a plot that should have worked, honestly. It’s not complicated, but somehow, the filmmakers really dropped the ball with it. I was genuinely surprised at how much they struggled with such a simple premise.
The new movie Taken In Plain Sight is getting overwhelmingly negative reactions online. Many viewers are harshly criticizing it, with one person saying they couldn’t endure more than 39 minutes of what they called a “pile of crap.” They hoped the movie would improve, but ultimately gave up. Another viewer bluntly stated it feels like the first movie written by artificial intelligence, and they couldn’t watch it for more than five minutes.
