Netflix is known for its excellent true-crime documentaries, but one crime thriller still stands out as the best. Over time, Netflix has become a leading streaming service, offering a huge and diverse range of shows and movies, with fresh content added every month.
Netflix releases a lot of content, and occasionally a show becomes a huge hit. However, very few of their projects are genuinely outstanding. When it comes to storytelling and keeping viewers hooked, Mindhunter is a true standout.
Mindhunter Was An Expensive And Deep Show
When Netflix was still establishing itself with original shows in 2017, Mindhunter arrived and quickly became a standout success. The show benefited from significant investment, including the involvement of director David Fincher and actors like Jonathan Groff. However, with a cost of $3-4 million per episode, it was considerably more expensive to produce than many other series at the time.
The series was beautifully made, and the significant investment clearly paid off. It created a world that felt detailed and vast, with a stunningly accurate historical setting. Every scene, from simple offices to prison interiors, was visually captivating and powerfully moving.
Most Netflix Crime Shows Don’t Come Near Mindhunter’s Excellence
Ultimately, Mindhunter brilliantly combined its elements to create something truly innovative and captivating. Even though the story was based on events from decades ago, the show made the world of Agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench – a world filled with red tape and dangerous criminals – feel fresh and compelling.
This show is among the few on Netflix that truly deserve to be called high-quality television – it improves upon the original story and is beautifully made. Since Mindhunter ended, nothing else has quite measured up in this genre.
Netflix May Never Find Another Mindhunter
Netflix spends a lot of money on original content, often turning popular books and established worlds into shows to attract viewers. While this strategy generally works well for the streaming service, Mindhunter stood out with its unique storytelling style. It’s disappointing that, since its cancellation after only two seasons, nothing else on Netflix has quite captured the same quality.
Even though Mindhunter was a well-made show with a dedicated following, Netflix decided not to continue with it due to its high production costs and lack of award recognition. This leaves a noticeable gap for a series that offers a similar level of quality in both its story and visual style.
