Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 Release Date Revealed

Netflix has announced that its live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender will be released two years after the first season aired.

This new series is based on the popular animated show Avatar: The Last Airbender from Nickelodeon. While the original is widely loved, the live-action version received mixed reviews, earning a 62% rating from critics and a 70% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The Netflix adaptation stars Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dalls Liu as Zuko, and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Uncle Iroh.

Netflix announced that season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender will premiere on June 25, 2026. The new season will follow Aang as he learns to control earthbending while continuing his battle against the Fire Nation. Viewers will also meet Toph (played by Miya Cech), a blind earthbender who becomes Aang’s teacher.

What To Expect From Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2

The second season of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender will cover the ‘Earth’ storyline from the original series. This season will center on the Earth Kingdom and show a growing threat from the Fire Nation. While Season 1 briefly introduced the Earth Kingdom, the new episodes will explore it much more fully.

Following the events of season one, where Aang used the Ocean Spirit to repel the Fire Nation from the Northern Water Tribe, the story continues. Meanwhile, Azula, Zuko’s sister, overthrows Bumi and seizes control of Omashu, establishing her as a key player in the upcoming second season.

Season 2 has seen some important changes behind the camera. Albert Kim, who led the first season, has stepped down as showrunner, but will still be involved as an executive producer. Now, Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani will share those showrunning duties for the rest of the series. It’s currently unknown how this shift in leadership will affect the story going forward.

If the new season is similar to the second season of the original series, the story will likely center around Team Avatar working to free the Earth Kingdom from the Fire Nation’s control. A major part of the plot will also focus on Aang learning earthbending, which will be a challenging but crucial step in his training.
