Netflix has been making more and more live-action adaptations in recent years, but they really gained attention with the success of the live-action version of One Piece. That show seemed to finally overcome the common problem of bad adaptations of manga and anime. Since then, Netflix has consistently released and announced new adaptations. This year, the third season of the popular Alice in Borderland was a hit, but Last Samurai Standing, which premiered on November 13th, has become their best new live-action series so far.

Originally based on a Japanese novel and manga, Last Samurai Standing was a hit when it premiered in Fall 2025. The show’s popularity comes from its exciting action sequences, which successfully brought the manga to life. The first season ended on a cliffhanger, and fans have been hoping for more. Now, Netflix has confirmed that Last Samurai Standing will be back for a second season.

Netflix confirmed today, December 19, 2025, on X (formerly Twitter) that Last Samurai Standing is getting another season. Production is now underway, and while we don’t have a release date yet, the new season might arrive faster than expected. The first season came out just a year and a half after it was announced, and a similar timeframe could apply this time around. Considering how popular the show is and how quickly Netflix renewed it, the new season could even premiere before the gap between announcement and release of the first season. We can reasonably expect Season 2 to debut as early as early 2027.

The first season of Last Samurai Standing successfully set up the main story, and with Netflix not indicating it will be the last season, the upcoming second season can build on that foundation. We can expect the show to further detail the players’ journey as they compete to reach Tokyo in the Kodoku game.

The story suggests only nine players will make it to the final round, and the end of Season 1 hinted at the arrival of important new characters. This likely means Season 2 will focus on establishing these nine as the main contenders. We might also learn more about the enigmatic Kyojin and what he’s planning, and see Shinjuro and his siblings finally face off against Gentosai. Now that the show has been renewed, Season 2 of Last Samurai Standing promises even more exciting action, and Netflix is expected to announce more details, including when it will be released.
