According to the popular high school romance manga by Saka Mikami titled “The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity“, the anime adaptation premiered in Summer 2025. Despite not being released as an anime until then, it already boasted a substantial fanbase. Following its successful first season, this popularity has only continued to increase. Animated by CloverWorks, the series captured many hearts with its stunning adaptation and was one of the highest-rated anime of the year. The anime consists of 13 episodes, six of which are currently streaming on Netflix. Even a month after its premiere, the series is only available in the subtitled version.
As reported by Anime Corner’s official channel, the English dubbed premiere of a certain series will take place on August 23rd, 2025. From September 7th, 2025, the dubbed version will be available weekly. The subtitled version will wrap up in Japan on September 28th, given that new episodes are released without delay each week. Since Netflix will air the episodes a week later than their Japanese broadcast, the final episode will air on October 5th, 2025. Some fans have voiced their frustration regarding the streaming schedule discrepancy, but it appears unlikely that any adjustments to the release plan will be made now that the anime is already halfway through.
What Is the Plot of The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity?
Students from the esteemed all-girls Kikyo Private Academy and the rough crowd at Chidori Public High School seem to inhabit separate spheres, despite their schools being neighbors. Despite this geographical proximity, they fail to see eye to eye. Rintaro Tsumugi, a student at notorious Chidori High, is frequently misjudged because of his intimidating appearance. He’s accustomed to people regarding him as potentially harmful, even though he’s never caused harm to anyone. Rintaro has only a handful of friends who stand by him, and he’s comfortable with his ordinary life. This explains why he isn’t taken aback when a young girl, a regular at his mother’s bakery, flees at the sight of him, leading to a major misconception.
The following day, Kaoruku Waguri expresses regret and clarifies that she was just embarrassed when he caught her eating so much. His reaction is one of astonishment, as the girl appears unintimidated and attempts to engage him in dialogue. However, their budding friendship is momentarily halted when Rintaro recognizes Kaoruku as a student at Kikyo Academy. As the narrative progresses, they both face various social hurdles, not only due to their different schools but also because of the students and faculty within those institutions.
So far in Japan, the manga has published 18 volumes, with the 19th set to come out on September 9th, 2025. However, only eight of these volumes have been translated into English and are now available for purchase on Kodansha’s official website. The ninth volume’s English version will be released on October 7th, 2025. Additionally, all the chapters can also be read digitally through Kodansha’s official K Manga app.
