Netflix had a fantastic 2025, with hit shows like KPOP Demon Hunters, Wednesday, and Stranger Things dominating pop culture. Beyond those big titles, their documentaries, true crime series, and dramas also performed very well. Recently, Netflix announced that a new true crime miniseries broke records in the latter half of the year, leading to its renewal for a second season.
Netflix’s crime drama miniseries, Untamed, was a huge success in 2025, attracting 93 million viewers and becoming the most popular new show of the latter half of the year. Only two other series—the fifth season of Stranger Things and the second season of Wednesday—were more popular, and those are already Netflix’s biggest hits.
It’s clear why Netflix is continuing the popular series Untamed, moving from a limited run to a second season. While it’s uncertain if there will be more seasons after that, if season 2 performs well, Netflix will likely keep developing this successful story.
What Is Netflix’s Untamed?

The miniseries Untamed centers around Kyle Turner, a National Parks Service agent portrayed by Eric Bana, as he investigates a violent death in Yosemite National Park. As he digs deeper into the case, both hidden truths about the park and his own personal history are revealed. The show’s captivating atmosphere, suspenseful plot, and compelling characters quickly drew viewers in.
Alongside Bana, the show features Sam Neill as Paul Souter, the head park ranger at Yosemite and a friend of the main character. Rosemarie DeWitt plays Jill Bodwin, Turner’s former wife, and the two share a close connection even though they’ve been separated for a while.
Lily Santiago stars as Naya Vasquez, a park ranger in Yosemite who moved from being a police officer in Los Angeles to start fresh with her son. Wilson Bethel plays Shane Maguire, a former Army Ranger and wildlife officer who prefers to keep to himself, and is also a vital member of the team.
Untamed Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
