Netflix’s popular action series, Extraction, is expanding with a spin-off called Mercenary, starring Omar Sy (known from Lupin and The Killer). And now, there’s even more to look forward to – another spin-off movie is in the works, this time featuring a fantastic, but often overlooked, action star. This news is really building the hype!
Chris Hemsworth isn’t the only familiar face returning for more action! Joining the *Extraction* series is Ma Dong-seok (also known as Don Lee), a popular actor from Marvel’s *Eternals*, *Train to Busan*, and *The Roundup* films. He’ll be the main star in a new *Extraction* movie, titled *Extraction: Taigo*. The director and writer of *The Roundup* are also working on this project, and Lee Jin-wook, known for *Squid Game*, will be joining the cast as well.
Similar to Chris Hemsworth’s character in *Extraction*, Lee will play a mercenary on a risky mission to save a fellow soldier who’s been kidnapped. According to What’s on Netflix, filming for *Extraction: Taigo* is expected to start this month.
Casting Ma Dong-seok in the *Extraction* movies was a brilliant move. He’s consistently delivered both impressive action skills and a captivating on-screen personality. With a famously powerful punch, action movie fans won’t want to miss *Extraction: Taigo*.

After the success of the first *Extraction* film in 2020, Netflix is expanding the franchise. In addition to *Extraction 2*, a new series called *Mercenary* is currently being developed. Starring Omar Sy, the series will center on a mercenary undertaking a perilous hostage rescue mission in Libya, where he’ll be caught between conflicting groups and dangerous enemies. The show will explore the complex emotional journeys of its characters as they grapple with trauma, betrayal, and difficult choices. Boyd Holbrook (from *Logan*) and Natalie Dormer (from *Game of Thrones*) are also joining the cast. *Mercenary* is slated to premiere on Netflix next year.
Chris Hemsworth is preparing to reprise his role as Tyler Rake in a third *Extraction* movie, following the success of his appearances in the first two films, including 2023’s *Extraction 2*. Although specific plot details are still secret, director Sam Hargrave has announced that filming is scheduled to begin in 2026.
The current goal is to start filming in 2026, and hopefully release the project sometime in 2027. This depends a lot on the actor’s availability, as his schedule with the Avengers movies is quite complex. Of course, I can’t officially confirm those dates just yet! [laughs]
