Netflex hasn’t only been hosting popular classic anime shows; it has also consistently produced significant original anime content to solidify its position in the anime industry. Although some may argue whether KPop Demon Hunters fits the definition of an anime, it has gained popularity and adds to their ever-growing collection. Shows like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Pluto, Beastars, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, and numerous others demonstrate Netflix’s dedication to anime. One of the platform’s most prominent originals has recently released its first trailer along with a release date.
In 2026, I’m eagerly looking forward to the next installment of the Baki The Grappler anime series, titled Baki-Dou. After an epic showdown between Baki and his father, Yujiro Hanma, where Baki managed to emerge victorious over the Ogre, it seems our protagonist and his companions are facing a lull in their adventures. However, the anime world has come up with an intriguing solution to break this monotony – the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi has been revived, introducing a fresh adversary for Baki and his allies. Although he’s not an ancient caveman or the Ogre, Musashi will undoubtedly pose a significant challenge. Don’t miss out on the latest trailer below!
The Son of The Ogre Returns
If you’re looking for a more detailed explanation of “Baki-Dou”, let me share with you how Netflix describes the upcoming series in Baki The Grappler. Essentially, “BAKI-DOU” is derived from a comic titled the same way, written by Keisuke Itagaki and published in Weekly Shonen Champion between 2014 and 2018. After the most epic father-son fight ever ends, Baki and other renowned fighters find themselves dealing with intense boredom. Simultaneously, an intricate plan is initiated 364 meters beneath Tokyo Skytree that aims to reawaken the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
Here I am, bearing witness to an extraordinary spectacle unfolding in the present moment. A formidable adversary, armed with awe-inspiring swordsmanship, has emerged as a menacing threat. He’s locked swords with Baki and his companions in a battle that blurs the boundaries of time and space. It’s the zenith of underground combat masters pitted against the legendary swordsman! The suspense is palpable as we await the outcome of this epic martial arts duel. The annals of strength are on the brink of a monumental shift!
Fortunately, there will still be content for Baki to adapt when the series Baki-Dou concludes. Creator Keisuke Itagaki has been developing the story of the son of the Ogre for decades and shows no signs of slowing down. Interestingly, it seems that manga creation is a family talent as Paru Itagaki, Keisuke’s daughter, is responsible for Netflix’s Beastars, an anime adaptation with a distinctly different storyline from her father’s work. Although a joint crossover between these two franchises might not be feasible, the Itagaki family has carved out their niche in the world of anime nonetheless.
