Netflix has another big hit on its hands! The recently released sequel is proving incredibly popular, quickly becoming a franchise. It’s currently number one in the US and gaining traction internationally. It’s clear Netflix now owns a major, successful monster movie franchise and is poised to build on that success.
I was so excited when Netflix added Troll 2 on December 1st! I really enjoyed the first Troll movie from last year – it was amazing to see a Norwegian film with such incredible special effects and a story rooted in their own folklore and history. It really put Norwegian filmmaking on the map internationally. Now, I’m incredibly curious to see how the sequel stacks up – I can’t wait to watch it and see what they’ve done with the story!
Trolls 2 Is Already A Milestone Release For Netflix (And Norway)

Okay, so this is wild! As of today, Troll 2 is actually the number one movie on Netflix in the US, which is just… incredible. And get this – it’s hit number one in 59 other countries too! We’re talking all over South and Central America – Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, you name it. Apparently, it’s racked up around 29.3 million views and over 51 million hours of watch time since it dropped. What really blows my mind is that it’s a non-English film doing so well here in America. Usually, that can be a barrier, but Troll 2 is clearly breaking all the rules!
As a film buff, I found it fascinating to learn that Troll 2 was actually the biggest movie production ever done in the Nordic countries! The director, Uthaug, and his team really went all out, filming on location all over Norway – in places like Trondheim, Maridalen, and Jotunheimen – and even shot some scenes in Budapest, Hungary. And get this – the buzz around the sequel has actually brought a ton of new viewers to the original Troll 2 too, which is pretty cool to see!
I’m so excited to see the original cast of Troll 2 returning! Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim S. Falck-Jørgensen, and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen are all back as Nora, Andreas, and Kristoffer. Plus, they’ve added some fantastic new faces like Sara Khorami, Jon Ketil Johnsen, Gard B. Eidsvold, Aksel Almaas, and Trond Magnum – the cast looks amazing!
Both Troll and Troll 2 are available to stream only on Netflix. Troll 2 runs for 1 hour and 45 minutes and, while it doesn’t have an official rating, many viewers consider it appropriate for ages 14 and up.
