Netflix has significantly helped the anime industry grow in recent years. They’re planning to release highly anticipated series like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run and The Ramparts of Ice in 2026, alongside many classic titles. However, one anime sequel in particular has fans especially excited. Originally announced at Anime Expo last year, details have been scarce – until now. It appears Studio TRIGGER is preparing to revisit a well-known, futuristic dystopian world.
The first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners ended definitively, with a sad but ultimately hopeful conclusion for David and Lucy. As fans know, a new story with different characters will be told in the next season, which was announced at Anime Expo last year. The second season will also have ten episodes, just like the first. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will feature a completely new story, so don’t expect the original characters to return – although they might appear elsewhere in the Cyberpunk universe created by CD Projekt.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Sequel – Here’s What We Know

Following its announcement, the upcoming Cyberpunk sequel, Edgerunners 2, revealed a thought-provoking tagline: “When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?” The world of Night City – familiar from both the anime and the Cyberpunk 2077 video game – is a place where people often feel expendable, leading many to lose themselves in virtual reality. The idea of new Edgerunners striving to make a lasting impact fits perfectly with the themes of the first season, where David and Lucy were willing to risk everything for recognition.
If you’re hoping to see David return in a sequel to Edgerunners, writer Bartosz Sztybor has confirmed that won’t happen – his character will remain deceased. However, other characters could reappear. Fans know Lucy survived her battle and achieved her dream of reaching the moon, leaving open the possibility of her involvement in a second season. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a huge hit for Netflix and significantly impacted Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red added characters and storylines from the anime into the game, leading to a big increase in players. It will be fascinating to see how the sequel influences the video game, if at all.
