Netflix has been consistently releasing popular anime series since the start of the year, with titles like Love Through a Prism, Cosmic Princess Kaguya, and Baki-Dou: The Invincible Samurai among them. Even though it’s only the first few months of the year, fans are already enjoying some of the platform’s most captivating shows. And the exciting announcements keep coming, including a new series called Sparks of Tomorrow from the renowned Kyoto Animation studio. Established in 1985, Kyoto Animation is famous for critically acclaimed works like Violet Evergarden and A Silent Voice. Late last year, the studio also announced its first anime adaptation from Shonen Jump, titled RuriDragon.
The anime series Sparks of Tomorrow is set to release soon, with details revealed at AnimeJapan 2026, held in Tokyo on March 28-29. The event featured over 120 exhibitors, including industry leaders like Aniplex, KADOKAWA, TOHO animation, and Bandai Namco Filmworks. A new trailer, key visual, and the series’ release date were unveiled.
When Is Sparks of Tomorrow Coming Out?
The new anime series will premiere on Netflix starting July 5th, 2026. While the total number of episodes is still unknown, it will release weekly beginning this summer. New episodes will also air weekly on Japanese TV channels including ABC TV, TOKYO MX, TV Aichi, and BS11, so Netflix won’t release the entire season all at once.
Minaru Ota, a director known for his work on popular anime like A Silent Voice, Violet Evergarden, and Liz and the Blue Bird, will be directing the new series. Luna Goami, praised for her emotive singing, will perform the opening theme song, “Eureka Evrika,” and Ginger Root will provide the ending theme.
What Is Sparks of Tomorrow About?

This anime series is adapted from a popular light novel by Hiro Yuki, with illustrations by Kazumi Ikeda. The story takes place in an alternate early 1900s Kyoto, a city that has developed along a different path than our own. It’s a grimy, industrial landscape filled with smoke, soot, and the power of steam.
I’m completely captivated by this story! It centers around Kihachi Sakamoto, a man haunted by the loss of his brother – they both longed for a future powered by electricity. He’s also troubled by a weird dream he can’t shake. Then there’s Inaoko Momonkawa, a deeply spiritual woman carrying a heavy heart after her mother passed away. When their paths unexpectedly cross, they’re drawn into a quest to uncover the mysteries within a fascinating old 20th Century Electrical Catalog, and expose a hidden, unsettling truth to the world. It’s a really compelling setup!
