Netflix’s New 6-Part Spy Thriller Series Is An Instant Streaming Sensation

Netflix recently launched a gripping new spy thriller that’s quickly become popular on the platform. Spy thrillers have been increasingly successful lately, with several hit shows appearing across various streaming services. A standout in the genre is Apple TV+’s Slow Horses, known for consistently releasing new seasons each year.

As a fan of the spy thriller genre, I’ve been really impressed with what Netflix has been delivering lately. We all know about hits like The Night Agent, which is a massive show for them and is coming back for season three this year, and Black Doves, which thankfully gets a second season in 2026. But I’m excited to say there’s a new series joining those ranks – it’s quickly becoming another one of Netflix’s must-watch thrillers.

Netflix reports that the German spy thriller Unfamiliar has quickly become one of its most popular shows in the United States, currently ranking as the 7th most-watched series. It has already surpassed other shows like Free Bert, Heartland, and Mike Epps: Delusional in viewership. Released on February 5th, Unfamiliar has become an instant hit with audiences across the country.

Since it was released just yesterday, “Unfamiliar” is expected to keep gaining popularity on Netflix throughout the weekend. Currently, the top three shows in the US are Bridgerton, which recently launched its fourth season, The Lincoln Lawyer (whose fourth season premiered on the same day as Unfamiliar), and Is It Cake? Valentines.

As of today, the series Unfamiliar hasn’t yet cracked the top ten most-watched shows on Netflix globally. Bridgerton currently leads that list, followed by HIS & HERS, Is It Cake? Valentines, Sullivan’s Crossing, and Animal Kingdom. Despite not being among the top ten, Unfamiliar is still gaining popularity around the world.

The new spy thriller, Unfamiliar, is gaining popularity around the world! It’s currently trending in 9 countries and has reached the #3 spot on Netflix in Ukraine. Besides the US and Ukraine, the show is a top 10 hit in Bulgaria, Denmark, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, and Vietnam. We’re still waiting for viewership numbers from its country of origin, Germany.

Currently, there’s no news about whether “Unfamiliar” will get a second season. However, the first season ends in a way that allows for more stories, and the show has already proven popular in the US and other countries since its release, suggesting a good chance for renewal.
