The new Netflix series, No One Saw Us Leave, has quickly become a hit! Debuting on October 15th, it reached number one in many Latin American countries, including Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil, within just six days. In the United States, the show has consistently stayed in the Top 5 since its release, and it’s currently a Top 10 hit in over 37 countries worldwide, including the UK. These numbers suggest the show is already a major talking point for many viewers.
No One Saw Us Leave Is Based On A True Story
Tamara Trottner’s novel, No One Saw Us Leave, published last fall, is inspired by a true story from 1968. The book follows a wealthy Jewish-Mexican family thrown into turmoil when the father kidnaps his two children and flees Mexico. The mother embarks on a worldwide quest to find them, aided by a former Mossad agent, but faces opposition from within her own family who are secretly helping the father.
Tamara Trottner was actually one of the children involved in the case described in the book she wrote. Her book is told from her point of view as a five-year-old, detailing how her father took her on a journey around the world, framing it as a game of hide-and-seek. However, the Netflix series No One Saw Us Leave focuses on the mother, Valeria Goldberg (played by Tessa la), and her frantic search to find her children.
The series centers on Valeria Goldberg, who feels trapped in her arranged marriage to Leo Saltzman, the son of a powerful businessman. When she makes a mistake under immense pressure, the Saltzman family retaliates, plotting to take her children and destroy her standing in their exclusive social circle. Following his parents’ instructions, Leo secretly takes their two young children, Tamara and Isaac, to Europe, cutting Valeria off from any information about their whereabouts.
When Valeria discovers her children have been taken, she hires Elías, a former Mossad agent now working as a private investigator, to find them. As Valeria and Elías pursue Leo and the kids internationally, Valeria’s worry is made worse by her in-laws, who try to turn their community against her. Will Valeria be able to find her children, or will her in-laws cover up their wrongdoing?
For years, Netflix has been actively investing in Spanish-language shows as a key part of its overall content plan. The huge popularity of Money Heist demonstrated a large global audience eager for Spanish-language content. This strategy is similar to how Netflix has successfully produced content from East Asia—including Japan, Korea, and China—leading to international hits like Squid Game.
You can stream No One Saw Us Leave on Netflix.
