Here’s a look at this week’s most popular movies on Netflix. While some are stronger than others (we’re still surprised Taken In Plain Sight is hanging on!), KPop Demon Hunters remains a solid pick at number 3. We’ve also got a couple of good thrillers with I Know What You Did Last Summer and Don’t Say A Word, featuring Michael Douglas. This week’s number one movie is a brand new thriller with Rebecca Ferguson and Idris Elba, and it looks like it’s already a big success!
Kathryn Bigelow’s latest film, A House of Dynamite, tells its story in a unique way. The movie replays the same events three times, each time from a different viewpoint and with a different title. The plot centers around a missile attack on the United States and the subsequent investigation to find the attacker and understand their reasons. Currently, the film has a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, Alan Kempenaar of Flimspotting notes that while the film is tense and timely, its repeated structure becomes less effective, ultimately leading to an unsatisfying conclusion.
What To Expect From A House Of Dynamite
Early reviews for the film are quite divided, with many viewers strongly disliking the ending. One viewer explained that the movie strives for depth but becomes repetitive, losing momentum with its multiple perspectives and ultimately feeling unfinished. They described it as having high potential with a strong cast, but delivering no satisfying conclusion – a frustrating experience for those who watched it. However, another viewer offered a different perspective, stating that the film isn’t a typical, neatly-wrapped adventure. Instead, they believe it’s a compelling and realistic portrayal of how the US government might react during a nuclear attack, highlighting the flaws and difficult choices that could arise. They compared it to thought-provoking European films that leave audiences pondering, and noted that it’s rare for a movie to leave a lasting impression, but this one did.
While A House Of Dynamite starts with a gripping idea, the movie doesn’t quite live up to its potential. Still, it’s a reasonably good way to pass the time if you’re looking for a suspenseful political thriller, as long as you don’t expect anything groundbreaking. It’s engaging and creates tension when it’s at its best, but can feel a bit underwhelming at times – similar to many other thrillers out there.
I just finished watching A House of Dynamite and I’m really curious to hear what you all thought! Share your opinions in the comments below, and then let’s jump over to the ComicBook forums to see what other fans are discussing – I always love seeing different perspectives.
