In simpler terms, it looks like the Transformers series on Netflix is doing quite well judging by its high placement on the streaming charts! This could mean good news for Paramount’s version of the franchise. Interestingly enough, the KPop Demon Hunters and The Thursday Murder Club continued their reign, with the High School Catfish documentary filling out the global top 3. However, it’s worth noting that the new Transformers movie performed better than expected in the US market.
Based on recent data from Netflix charts, the movie “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts,” released in 2023, ranked third among the most-watched films in the U.S. during its debut week, with an impressive 12.4 million views. To provide some perspective, a fresh release titled “Unknown Number: The High School Catfish” garnered slightly more views at 13.6 million. Even “The Art of Racing in the Rain,” another new release that placed fifth on the chart, had 4 million fewer views than “Transformers” with 8.1 million. Given that Paramount is currently under new management and seeking to lean on larger intellectual properties, this strong performance would likely be considered favorable news.

Transformers Could Be Reinvented Under Paramount’s New Owners

After purchasing Skydance, Paramount is making significant strides. They’ve secured Will Smith for a first-look IP agreement and acquired the rights for a new Call of Duty movie (possibly multiple ones). They’ve also signaled a revitalized commitment to the Star Trek film series, which has been relatively quiet for some time now. It seems reasonable to anticipate more from other franchises such as Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, and Sonic The Hedgehog. However, Transformers appears to be one of the properties with the most promising potential.
The movie titled “Rise of the Beasts” grossed more than $440 million worldwide. Following this, the first Transformers film garnered positive reviews from critics but failed at the box office. There are whispers that Michael Bay may return to the franchise, which could potentially give Paramount a recipe for both critical praise and financial success – something they’ve struggled to achieve so far. The top-rated films in their series have generally underperformed, sometimes disappointingly, but there’s still hope.
As a die-hard movie buff who can’t get enough of the Transformers franchise, I’m thrilled to share that most installments are now streaming! You can catch them all on Paramount+. Interestingly, the original Transformers movie is also up on Prime Video. If you’re eagerly awaiting the next sequel, here’s a heads-up: Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is exclusively available on Netflix for now.
