Netflix’s One Piece Cast Talks Season 2’s Shocking Cameos

I’ve been watching the second season of the live-action One Piece on Netflix, and it’s been a real surprise! These eight new episodes follow Luffy and his crew on a bunch of adventures. While the show stays pretty true to the original story, it’s also thrown in some unexpected twists, like introducing characters earlier than they appeared in the manga. I recently read an interview with the cast, and as huge fans of One Piece themselves, they had a lot to say about these surprising appearances.

Spoiler Warning: If you haven’t watched the first two episodes of One Piece Season 2 yet, be aware that this article contains spoilers! Recently, the cast of the Netflix live-action One Piece series spoke with Collider about the early appearances of Brook and Sabo, two characters not originally planned to arrive so soon. Emily Rudd (Nami) and Jacob Romero (Usopp) discussed Brook, the skeletal musician who will eventually join the Straw Hat crew aboard the Thousand Sunny. Rudd praised Brook’s introduction in episode two, saying, “He’s so good!” Romero also complimented actor Martial Batchamen, who plays Brook, calling him “a wonderful person with a big heart and genuine personality.”

Sabo & Brook Arrive

A significant addition to the live-action series was Sabo, Luffy’s older brother, who wasn’t introduced in the anime for quite some time. The actors, being huge fans of the series, were incredibly surprised by his early appearance. Mackenyu, who plays Roronoa Zoro, was so shocked he almost lost his voice. He recalls screaming when he saw the first episode with the rest of the cast, even before they started filming scenes for Season 3.

Emily Rudd, who stars alongside Zoro, explained that the early appearance of certain characters was approved by Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, who also serves as an Executive Producer. She noted that the show often features scenes the actors aren’t directly involved in, and seeing characters like Sabo appear unexpectedly was a pleasant surprise. Rudd emphasized that Oda’s involvement allows for exciting moments fans will appreciate, as it brings characters into the story much earlier than anticipated.

Good news for fans – Netflix has already greenlit a third season of One Piece, and they’re currently working on it! If you watched season two, you’ll remember the Straw Hats were constantly traveling between islands. This next season looks like it’ll be different, focusing mostly on one place: the desert island of Alabasta. We already know about some new characters – both heroes and villains – but knowing how season two went, I wouldn’t be surprised if even more unexpected faces pop up along the way.
