The second season of the live-action One Piece series arrives on Netflix next month, on March 10th. While fans are excited to see Luffy and his crew explore places like Loguetown and Little Garden, Netflix has already begun working on season three. Production is underway, and several new characters have been confirmed. Recently, a particularly popular character from the anime was revealed to be joining the cast in a way that might surprise many fans.
Just a reminder, the third season of One Piece will follow Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates as they journey to the desert island of Alabasta. The cast already includes Ace (Luffy’s brother), the villain Bon Clay, Mr. 1, and Miss Doublefinger. Fans are also anticipating other characters, as the live-action series has closely followed the original story so far. A recent image drawn by Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, shows the Straw Hat Pirates with their new friend Vivi and her bird, Karoo. Karoo plays a key role in the Alabasta storyline, so it’s likely we’ll see him appear in the upcoming season.

Karoo’s One Piece Arrival is Imminent

For viewers who aren’t familiar, the Karoo is a challenging creature to realistically portray without computer-generated imagery. This rideable bird is a loyal companion to Vivi and joins the Straw Hat Pirates in their quest to liberate Alabasta from the clutches of Crocodile and his organization, Baroqueworks. Fortunately, Netflix’s One Piece has proven adept at bringing the fantastical inhabitants of the Grand Line to life. As they prepare for season two, the streaming service has teased a future member of the Straw Hat crew whose arrival will require significant CG effects to make believable.
Tony Tony Chopper is a highly anticipated new character in the second season of One Piece. Ahead of the return of the live-action series on Netflix, it’s been confirmed that Chopper will be created using CGI animation. Mikaela Hoover, known for her work in Guardians of the Galaxy and Superman, will provide the voice for the reindeer doctor, a character fans have been eager to see come to life.
It’s not surprising to see Karoo in the live-action series, as Netflix has generally stayed very close to the original story. While the show has made a few changes, mostly to simplify things, it would be unexpected if Vivi’s companion wasn’t included. As we get closer to season two, we might also hear news about season three fairly soon.
