The second season of Netflix’s live-action One Piece series made several changes from the original manga and anime, and the creator recently shared which ones he liked best. One Piece: Into the Grand Line follows Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hats, as they begin a new adventure across the Grand Line, facing many challenges along the way. Similar to the first season, the show covers a lot of ground in a relatively short amount of time.
As a huge One Piece fan, I was so excited to hear Eiichiro Oda himself talk about the live-action series! He recently shared on the official Netflix podcast that he has some favorite changes the show made from the original manga, specifically in the ‘Into the Grand Line’ arc. Apparently, these weren’t just little tweaks – he thinks they’ll really jump out and impress fans, and honestly, I can’t wait to see what they are!
One Piece Creator Reveals Favorite Live-Action Changes for Season 2

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, shared some of his favorite moments from the live-action adaptation. He particularly loved the scene where Iñaki Godoy, who plays Luffy, sings to Laboon, calling it a standout moment. He was also pleased with the final scene featuring Chopper and praised Charithra Chandran’s performance and significant role. These changes seem to be resonating with fans, as the Laboon scene has been a major talking point and a success in the new season.
Luffy’s recent interaction with Laboon subtly hints at future events and reinforces the significance of the ‘Binks’ Brew’ song throughout the series. The song was first presented during Laboon’s backstory, cleverly foreshadowing a key character who becomes more important later. This connection to Luffy’s history proved to be very impactful. Additionally, Oda discussed how Chopper’s character translated to the live-action adaptation.
One Piece Creator Talks Live-Action Chopper

Oda discussed how Chopper’s appearance evolved during development, and he’s happy with how it turned out. Initially, the team focused on making Chopper look anatomically correct, like a real animal. Oda realized this could create an unsettling effect, so he suggested they design him as a cute stuffed animal instead. He explained that making him too realistic would venture into the ‘uncanny valley,’ making him less appealing.
Charithra Chandran, who plays Miss Wednesday, is particularly well-featured, which is fitting given her important role in the new episodes. She has significantly more screen time than the other new cast members, hinting at a larger role to come in season three, and it’s wonderful to see both the creator and fans responding positively to her performance.
