Netflix’s Original Anime Gets Its Shonen Jump Manga Adaptation Ahead of Its Premiere

This year in November, Netflix surprised anime fans by announcing a new original anime series from Yoko Kamio, the celebrated creator of popular manga like Boys Over Flowers, Cat Street, and Matsuri Special. The anime, titled Love Through a Prism and produced by WIT Studio, will start streaming as an Original Net Animation (ONA) on January 15th, 2026. According to a reliable source specializing in Shonen Jump series (@WSJ_manga), a manga version of the story will also be released on January 8th, 2026. This manga will be a collaboration between Kamio and Maki Minami, the creator of Special A. Both versions of the series, with the same title, will be available on the Shonen Jump+ and Manga Mee apps. Manga Mee is Shueisha’s platform dedicated to shōjo and josei manga.

With the series launching on multiple platforms, the publisher clearly aims to reach a broad audience and generate excitement for both the show and the anime it’s based on. The original story comes from Kamio, and Kazuto Nakazawa, a director known for popular series like Samurai Champloo, B: The Beginning, and Terror in Resonance, is leading the production at WIT Studio. WIT Studio is famous for its work on the first three seasons of Attack on Titan and the Netflix series Great Pretender. Recently, the studio has also been focusing on original projects, including Moonrise, which they’re creating with Netflix.

What Is The Plot of Love Through a Prism?

The story takes place in the early 1990s and centers on Lili Ichijouin, a Japanese girl who comes to the renowned Saint Thomas Art Academy to pursue her passion for painting. She’s under immense pressure from her parents to be the best in her class, as their continued support for her studies depends on it. While striving to succeed, Lili encounters Kit Church, a talented but aloof fellow student.

Seeing Kit passionately paint inspires Lili to be more honest and strong as she pushes her own boundaries. They gradually get to know each other on a deeper level, discovering a connection that goes beyond their shared love of art. Their relationship develops slowly, and they face the difficult task of living authentically and challenging expectations, even when facing disapproval from others.

The newly released trailer hints at challenges for the couple, largely stemming from their different backgrounds. “Love Through a Prism” will have 20 episodes, but it’s unclear if this will be enough to tell the complete story or if it will be continued in future seasons.
