The official news is out: Netflix is moving forward with a second installment for their record-breaking film, the star-studded action-comedy “Red Notice.” Despite being Netflix’s most-viewed movie of all time, featuring Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson, a follow-up was previously not announced. This could be due to the high cost of the talented cast, making it a less appealing business decision despite its widespread popularity. However, with another film now claiming the title of Netflix’s “most-watched movie,” they are now fully committed to producing a sequel.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the blockbuster KPop Demon Hunters is set to grace our screens once more! The news follows the animated masterpiece ruling Netflix charts for weeks straight, not forgetting its dominance at the box office over a weekend. According to Variety, Sony and Netflix are in initial discussions to collaborate again on a sequel to this cinematic triumph. Co-director Maggie Kang has hinted at her plans for a KPop Demon Hunters sequel, expressing her desire to shift the focus away from Rumi, our lead vocalist, and delve deeper into the histories of her bandmates, Zoey and Mira.
KPop Demon Hunters Will Return

As a follower, I’m excited to share that I, along with my co-director Chris Appelhans, are anticipated to resume our directorial roles for the sequel of KPop Demon Hunters. Although negotiations are currently in their initial stages, we’re hopeful about what the future holds. Additionally, it’s still uncertain whether Netflix and Sony will choose to incorporate a limited theatrical release for the sequel, given the success of the sing-along event.
The animated series “KPop Demon Hunters” was a collaboration between Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix, as part of Sony’s agreement with Netflix that allows Sony to develop projects exclusively for the streaming platform. Given the series’ tremendous popularity, it’s not surprising that Netflix is looking to expand on its success further, which includes planning for a sequel and creating “KPop Demon Hunters” experiences in Philadelphia and Dallas. These events are expected to be ready before the upcoming holiday season.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that “Red Notice” has just surpassed all previous records on Netflix, making it their most-watched movie ever. This remarkable achievement comes hot on the heels of its unprecedented success as the first Netflix film to top box office charts for an entire weekend. The secret to this triumph? A special two-night event release of a sing-along version in theaters by both Netflix and Sony!
On another note, “KPop Demon Hunters” has only been available for a couple of months, yet it’s been making waves across various charts, even those in the music industry. The show’s soundtrack has claimed the top spot on the Billboard charts, further solidifying its dominance!
The movie “KPop Demon Hunters” has a remarkable 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an impressive 91% audience approval on Popcornmeter. In its brief theatrical release for the sing-along version, this film raked in over $18 million at the domestic box office. Notably, both the original and sing-along versions of “KPop Demon Hunters” are still leading the pack on Netflix’s movie charts.
The series “KPop Demon Hunters” boasts a stellar ensemble, with Arden Cho portraying Rumi, May Hong as Mira, Ji-young Yoo taking on the role of Zoey, Ahn Hyo-seop as Jinu, Yunjin Kim as Celine, Ken Jeong assuming the character of Bobby, Lee Byung-hun playing Gwi-ma, and Daniel Dae Kim embodying Healer Han.
