Netflix’s thriller Red Rose has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it’s an incredible horror series you might not have seen. The streaming service has more than a few well-crafted scary shows, like Mike Flanagan’s beloved series featuring grim family tragedies and old haunted houses.

Because so many of us enjoy Mike Flanagan’s stories, a lot of us quickly started watching all five of his series. Many of us were especially captivated by the terrifying witch in Marianne.

Red Rose is getting perfect reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, which is rare! It’s a gripping and scary story. If you enjoyed the teen drama Pretty Little Liars, you might like this show too, but be warned – it’s significantly more intense.

We first meet Roch Mason (Isis Hainsworth), a teenager who feels like an outsider compared to her friends, like the self-assured Wren Davies (Amelia Clarkson). When Roch discovers a strange app called Red Rose, she’s instantly intrigued, but it quickly starts causing problems in her life.

Lots of horror movies deal with the drama of high school friendships, and Pretty Little Liars was one of them. But Red Rose feels especially realistic – the teen dialogue actually sounds like how teenagers talk – and it throws in a creepy, mysterious threat and some genuinely shocking deaths.

Even though it’s short with only eight episodes, the series delivers a satisfying conclusion. It explains the origin of the app and how it became central to the teenagers’ lives – a reveal that adds to the horror instead of leaving things unexplained.

The Red Rose app is really captivating, and it’s unsettling to think about receiving its messages. I found myself constantly wanting to know what would happen next. It’s a more compelling story to see a group of friends fall apart because of an app than to watch another typical horror movie about a killer stalking teenagers.

I thoroughly enjoyed all eight episodes of Red Rose, and it rightfully earned a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. If you’re looking for a spooky show you might have overlooked when it came to Netflix, this is an excellent choice.
