Netflix is often criticized for quickly canceling shows, but its popular series The Witcher is defying expectations. Despite years of production and significant behind-the-scenes issues, the show is once again a huge hit. With the release of Season 4 around Halloween 2025, The Witcher faced a major change: Henry Cavill (known for Man of Steel) left his role as Geralt of Rivia, and Liam Hemsworth (from The Hunger Games) has taken over the part.
I have to admit, when Henry Cavill left The Witcher, I was worried! A lot of people seemed to think it would ruin Season 4. But I’m really happy to see how wrong they were. Not only is the show doing incredibly well on Netflix’s charts, but everyone – fans and critics alike – seems to agree that Liam Hemsworth is doing a fantastic job as Geralt. Honestly, from what I’ve seen, he might actually be the best part of the new season!

Okay, so after The Witcher Season 4 dropped, I was really surprised by how much buzz there was around another show, The Asset! It’s this super intense spy thriller about an agent who goes undercover, getting close to the girlfriend of a really dangerous criminal to try and take him down. Honestly, both The Witcher and The Asset totally blew everything else on Netflix out of the water over Halloween weekend – they got almost twice as many views as the new season of Nobody Wants This, which, a lot of people are saying, isn’t nearly as good as it used to be. I’m definitely checking out The Asset now!
Season 4 of The Witcher begins with Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri separated and facing a war-torn continent filled with enemies. Each character pursues their own path, and along the way, they meet new allies who could help them. Whether they can embrace these new relationships will determine if they’ll ever be reunited.
Liam Hemsworth is taking over the role of Geralt, replacing Henry Cavill. Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra will be back as Ciri and Yennefer, alongside Joey Batey as Jaskier and Mahesh Jadu as the villain Vilgefortz, who was revealed at the end of Season 3. Laurence Fishburne, known from The Matrix and Ant-Man and the Wasp, is joining Season 4 as Regis, a knowledgeable barber-surgeon. New cast members also include Danny Woodburn as the dwarf Zoltan, Sharlto Copley (from District 9) as bounty hunter Leo Bonhart, and James Purefoy (The Following) as the spy and advisor Skellen.
The Witcher Spinoff Series Is Now Streaming (It Wasn’t Canceled!)

Watch all of Season 4 of The Witcher on Netflix, and you’ll unlock a bonus: The Rats: A Witcher Tale will become available to stream! Rumors circulated that the Rats gang might get their own story within the Witcher universe, but when no announcement came, many thought the idea was scrapped. However, that wasn’t the case!
According to Netflix, the new series takes place right before the group meets Ciri at the end of Season 3. It tells the story of how they came together, the events that shaped their beliefs, and how they caught the attention of bounty hunter Leo Bonhart (Sharlto Copley). The main storyline focuses on a risky robbery at a new, violent fighting arena owned by Dominik Houvenaghel, where each member of the group has an important part to play. However, the plan quickly falls apart, leading to serious trouble.
I’m really excited about the cast of “The Rats”! We’ve got Christelle Elwin playing Mistle, Connor Crawford as Asse, Ben Radcliffe as Giselher, and Aggy K. Adams taking on the role of Iskra. Plus, Fabian McCallum is Kayleigh and Juliette Alexandra will be playing Reef. It’s a great group of actors, and I can’t wait to see them bring these characters to life.
The Witcher Season 4 and The Rats: A Witcher Tale are both streaming on Netflix.
