Netflix is releasing more and more content, and its collection of true-crime documentaries and films is becoming increasingly popular. Recent successes like The Investigation of Lucy Letby and The Perfect Neighbor join other popular titles such as American Murder: Gabby Petito and Making a Murderer. Netflix is now a leading force in the world of true crime entertainment.
Their latest documentary is a real standout – it’s gripping and might even make you question who you can trust. It explores the world of social media influencers, revealing that some aren’t as genuine as they appear. As Netflix’s The TikTok Killer shows, things online aren’t always what they seem, and what looks perfect can be surprisingly dangerous.
This two-part documentary series is quickly becoming a must-watch, detailing a shocking recent crime in Spain. True crime fans are hooked, and it’s currently ranked 6th on Netflix’s list of the most popular shows worldwide. As of today, it’s the only documentary series in the top 10, alongside big hits like Bridgerton, The Night Agent, and One Piece.
Who Is the TikTok Killer?
This documentary series tells the story of Esther Estepa, a 42-year-old woman living a nomadic lifestyle, who goes on a journey and then disappears. Her mother, Pepa, desperately tries to reach out and convince Esther to come home, and the documentary includes some heartbreaking messages from her. However, Esther consistently refuses, and in 2023, she abruptly stops responding to all communication – texts and voice messages alike.
I was heartbroken to learn that when Esther disappeared, her mother and sister had to fight to get anyone to take the case seriously. It seemed like because Esther wasn’t connected to anyone important, the authorities weren’t initially concerned. But then, a glimmer of hope! Her family received a call from José Jurado Montilla, known as Dinamita Montilla – another traveler like Esther who, thankfully, documented his life all over social media. It felt like this could finally be the lead they needed.
The popular influencer says he knew Esther and even traveled with her for a short time. While sending puzzling messages about her disappearance and pretending to search for her, police began to suspect him. It turns out he’s a dangerous killer who’s been hiding in plain sight – and even used TikTok to publicly deny crimes he’s been linked to since the 1980s.
Netflix’s ‘The TikTok Killer’ Puts Viewers in Front of a Merciless… Suspect

Netflix
The first episode focuses on the puzzling disappearance of Esther and only suggests that Jurado might be connected. It’s hard to believe someone who seemed so charming and harmless – and was well-liked by many – could be involved. However, the evidence increasingly links him to serious crimes, and the investigation takes a crucial new direction in the second episode. The final ten minutes of the documentary are both unsettling and deeply moving.

The series carefully sticks to the known facts of the case. While the evidence against Jurado is strong, The TikTok Killer avoids making a definitive judgment or claiming he’s guilty beyond any doubt. Similar to other true crime shows on Netflix, it doesn’t tie up every loose end, as the investigation is still ongoing. Though this might be frustrating for some viewers, it ultimately makes the ending feel more unsettling and realistic.
