I’ve noticed Netflix really getting into anime lately, adding a lot of shows you can only find on their service. They’re still figuring things out and building up their selection, but last year they landed a big win with Shonen anime – that popular action-adventure style. They even premiered *Sakamoto Days*, a really fun action-comedy, as a Netflix exclusive. The first part of the show came out earlier this year and did really well, but the second part this summer was even more popular – people are clearly enjoying it!
With summer ending, the popular series revealed a live-action movie is coming out in Japan at the end of Golden Week in 2026. While a release date for North America hasn’t been announced yet, the first trailer impressed fans. A recent second trailer, introducing the character Shin, suggests the *Sakamoto Days* live-action film is on track to be a major success, largely because it’s staying true to the original story.

The Netflix anime series *Sakamoto Days* would translate well to a live-action movie or show. Although based on a popular manga style, the story focuses on realistic action sequences instead of fantastical powers. The teasers released so far suggest a fast-paced, action-packed feel similar to movies like *John Wick*. Because *Sakamoto Days* centers around assassins who use practical weapons and fighting skills, it’s a much more straightforward adaptation than Netflix’s *One Piece*.
Fans are even more excited about the upcoming live-action *Sakamoto Days* movie now that Yuichi Fukuda – the director behind the hilarious *Gintama* films – is on board. He’s known for keeping the spirit of the original series alive in adaptations. So far, we know that Ren Meguro will star as Sakamoto, and Fumiya Takahashi (famous for *Kamen Rider Zero-One*) will play Shin.
Because Meguro is a fan of the source material and Fumiya has a knack for action-comedy, this adaptation seems promising. While it might not reach the popularity of Netflix’s *One Piece*, *Sakamoto Days* offers realistic action, a good sense of humor, and skilled direction, making it a live-action series fans will want to check out when it’s released.
