The team behind Game of Thrones has another hit on their hands with 3 Body Problem. Netflix has confirmed that Season 2 of the sci-fi series will premiere in 2026. The announcement was made in a recent press release detailing upcoming shows and movies, where 3 Body Problem Season 2 was listed with a 2026 release date.
Fans of 3 Body Problem will be happy to hear the show continues to resonate with audiences, currently holding a 76% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. This is comparable to the 78% score critics gave it in its first season, suggesting a strong beginning for what could become a very popular series.
3 Body Problem Is a Comeback Win For Game of Thrones’ Creators
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss became well-known showrunners with the success of Game of Thrones in 2011. The HBO series quickly became a global phenomenon, establishing Benioff and Weiss as major figures in television. However, the show eventually surpassed the available source material from author George R.R. Martin, requiring the showrunners to work with him to create the ending. Unfortunately, that ending was widely criticized and is considered one of the worst finales in TV history. The final season of Game of Thrones is largely seen as a significant failure, damaging the previously strong reputations of Benioff and Weiss.
The sci-fi series 3 Body Problem gets off to a strong start with high production values. The story presents a world where, during the Cold War, a Chinese scientist makes initial contact with an alien civilization. Years later, five scientists at Oxford must figure out how to stop an alien invasion planned for the future – 400 years, to be exact, when the aliens, known as the San-Ti, will arrive on Earth with the intention of taking over. But the San-Ti aren’t waiting; they’re already working on Earth to find human allies and disrupt any attempts to fight back, using advanced technology like virtual reality and nanotechnology. Meanwhile, a secret group of intelligence agencies and scientists is racing to protect humanity, defend against the San-Ti, and stop those who are secretly helping the aliens.
The Netflix series 3 Body Problem is based on the science fiction novels Remembrance of Earth’s Past by Chinese author Liu Cixin. The books are known for their incredibly imaginative and complex sci-fi ideas. If you enjoyed Season 1, you should expect Season 2 to be even more mind-bending. (Beware of spoilers!) The first season already featured some pretty wild stuff, like a character’s brain being removed, frozen, and launched into space in a rocket, with the plan for aliens to reconstruct his body so he can act as a spy. That gives you an idea of how far out the show is willing to go!
3 Body Problem will return to Netflix in 2026.
