Following the positive reception of Netflix’s live-action version of the popular anime and manga One Piece, more adaptations are becoming possible. Netflix and Legendary Pictures have officially announced they’re working on a live-action movie based on Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia. Although a release date hasn’t been set – and the movie is still in early development – writer Jason Fuchs has shared that this adaptation will be approached with the same care and attention as the One Piece series.
The success of the live-action One Piece is largely thanks to the original author, Eiichiro Oda, who was heavily involved in the entire process, from choosing the actors to overseeing production. Now, Jason Fuchs has revealed that Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of My Hero Academia, is also playing an active role in its live-action adaptation, as he recently shared with Entertainment Weekly. This suggests the My Hero Academia series is on the right track and could be very successful.
Netflix’s My Hero Academia Live-Action Could Be as Successful as One Piece

Jason shared in an interview that Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of My Hero Academia, has final approval over every aspect of the live-action adaptation. Similar to how Eiichiro Oda oversaw the One Piece live-action, nothing progresses without Horikoshi’s sign-off. Jason emphasized that Horikoshi is involved in all details, giving everything a thumbs up or down. This level of creator involvement, much like with One Piece, is a promising sign for the show’s success, as the One Piece adaptation benefited from creators who were true fans and deeply respectful of the original material.
During the interview, Jason shared his enthusiasm for My Hero Academia, revealing he’s a big fan of the series. He’s confident in the live-action project, especially knowing Kohei is heavily involved, and is committed to creating a great adaptation. He also praised the show’s characters, particularly the protagonist and students of U.A. High. This confirms the My Hero Academia movie is being approached with the same care and dedication as the One Piece adaptation, suggesting it’s on track for success despite initial skepticism from fans.
