A game released on Steam last month has already sold over a million copies. While that number might not be remarkable for large, well-known games, it’s a huge achievement for this particular title. That’s because it was created and published entirely by a single developer – and it was their first game! It’s quickly becoming one of the most surprising successes of 2025.
The Steam game *Megabonk*, developed by Vedinad, is a roguelike survival title that launched on September 18th for $10. It has since received over 18,000 user reviews, with an impressive 94% of players giving it a positive rating. This earns the game a “Very Positive” designation on Steam – the second-highest rating possible, just shy of “Overwhelmingly Positive.”
About the Game
If you’re new to *Megabonk*, think of it like last year’s popular game, *Vampire Survivors*. Both games involve automatically attacking enemies as they come in waves. However, *Megabonk* stands out because it’s played in a 3D environment, while *Vampire Survivors* is a 2D game.
One player shared that the game is incredibly enjoyable, saying they love playing it while listening to music and going on long runs. Another user jokingly admitted the game is so engaging, it’s a great way to put off important tasks.
Most players love the game, though some have mentioned problems with how balanced it is. Luckily, these issues seem easy to address with updates. Because the game is still selling incredibly well – it’s currently the fourth best-selling on Steam a month after launch – there aren’t any plans for a sale right now.
Steam Deck Verified
For just $10, *Megabonk* is now part of the growing number of games verified to work with the Steam Deck. This means Valve has thoroughly tested it and confirms it runs smoothly from beginning to end without needing any adjustments from the player.
