New Alien Game Rumored to Include a Character No One Expected

A new Alien game is reportedly in the works, and it features a character that’s surprising many fans. This is exciting news for those who’ve enjoyed previous Alien titles, like the popular Alien: Isolation. Alien games have been consistently successful since the arcade era, and the recent positive reception of Alien: Earth seems to have breathed new life into a project that was once thought to be canceled. It’s now back in development with a significantly larger budget – more than double what it had five years ago.

Insider Gaming reported on December 12, 2025, that an Alien game thought to be canceled is now back in production. The game will include the character Ripley 8. Development began around 2020, and while the game was known internally as “Marathon” at one point, that was likely just a temporary title. It appeared the project had been put on hold or even stopped entirely, but it has since moved to Eidos-Montréal, where active development has resumed. This will be Eidos-Montréal’s first Alien game, though the studio has plenty of experience developing games.

Ripley 8 Is Appearing in a New Alien Game

Eidos-Montréal, the studio behind games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, is working on a new survival horror game. Sources say it takes place on a rundown space station overrun with Xenomorphs and a team of special operators. Currently, the game is being described internally as a blend of Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s gameplay with the terrifying Xenomorphs. Players will need to fight, navigate challenging environments, and solve puzzles to survive. Stealth will be crucial, and puzzles will involve things like cracking codes and repairing broken machinery.

The game will feature at least three characters. One is Aubrey, an engineer who uses magnetic boots and a grappling hook for movement. Ryuzo is likely to be an enemy in the game, and surprisingly, Ripley 8 – the character Sigourney Weaver played in Alien: Resurrection – will also appear. It’s currently unknown if Weaver is involved in the project or what role Ripley 8 will play – whether she’ll be a playable character, a non-playable character, or something else entirely. Ripley 8 is a clone of the original Ripley, created on the ship Auriga to help bring back the Xenomorph XX121, and she shares some of its traits. She last appeared in a video game in 2016 with Dead by Daylight.

Originally estimated at $30 million back in 2020, the game is now being developed by Eidos-Montréal with a budget of under $75 million, indicating a strong commitment to the project. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced beyond a 2028 timeframe, it’s planned for release on all major gaming platforms. As development is still in its early stages, details are subject to change. For the latest updates, check back with ComicBook, and if you’re looking for a scare, revisit Alien: Isolation.
