It’s hard to believe that an Avenger might be changing allegiance! But whispers abound about this possibility in relation to the upcoming movie, “Avengers: Doomsday.” Although there have been rumors swirling about Robert Downey Jr.’s character Doctor Doom’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since we saw a sneak peek of him in the mid-credits scene of “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” these speculations heightened following the apparent leak of concept art for “Doomsday” earlier this year. However, directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who are working on “Doomsday,” have dismissed the leaked art as fake. Nonetheless, recent gossip about the much-anticipated Avengers film seems to hint at a fact that the supposedly phony leaked art seemed to suggest.
In the latest episode of The Hot Mic podcast, Jeff Sneider disclosed a rumor suggesting that Doctor Strange, formerly known as Sorcerer Supreme, will collaborate with Doctor Doom instead of clashing with him in an upcoming film. This project is being filmed in London now, potentially leading to small leaks from the large crew involved. Although it seems surprising given his crucial role as an ally to the Avengers in Infinity War and Endgame, a piece of leaked artwork appears to support this claim. The artwork depicts Doctor Doom seated on a throne in a medieval setting, with courtiers looking on as a blonde woman – possibly a variant of Sue Storm – presents a bound man before him. To Doom’s right stands a tall figure who bears a striking resemblance to Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, attired in flowing green robes.

Doctor Strange Allying with Doctor Doom Spells Trouble for the Avengers
It’s surprising, but by the end of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” Clea (played by Charlize Theron) enlisted Doctor Strange to prevent more incursions throughout the multiverse. Given that Doom might play a significant part in “Avengers: Doomsday” and potentially gain dominance or influence over the multiverse, it seems both may find themselves working towards the same goal, albeit reluctantly or willingly. There’s a possibility that Doom could use his resemblance to Tony Stark, who had a close professional bond with Doctor Strange during the Infinity Saga, to persuade Strange to team up with him.
If it’s accurate that the rumor holds true, the Avengers will undoubtedly face a formidable challenge in “Doomsday”. Granted, their team is robust, spanning multiple universes and franchises showcasing Marvel heroes. However, Doom and Strange are two of the most potent figures in the Marvel universe, given that both have held the title of Sorcerer Supreme in the comics. With Strange’s aid, there’s a strong possibility that “Doomsday” may conclude in a manner reminiscent of “Infinity War”, where the Avengers suffer defeat, leading to Doom establishing his realm, Battleworld, and subsequently setting up the redemption storyline for the team as depicted in “Secret Wars”.
