New Avengers: Doomsday & Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Report Reveals Super Bowl Shock

With the Super Bowl approaching, some surprising Marvel Cinematic Universe news is emerging. The Super Bowl is a massive event – not just for football fans, but for everyone. Alongside the game itself, people eagerly anticipate the commercials, which are often highlights of the broadcast. Increasingly, Hollywood is using this platform to debut trailers for highly anticipated movies, going beyond typical advertising for things like snacks and drinks.

According to Deadline, here’s a look at the major movie trailers coming to Super Bowl LVIII next weekend. Surprisingly, Marvel isn’t planning to release any trailers during the game. This is particularly unexpected given that two big Marvel movies – Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday – are scheduled to come out this year. While there could be a reason for this decision, it’s still a big surprise.

Fans predicted that a trailer for Avengers: Doomsday would be shown during the Super Bowl, especially after short teasers were released with screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash. They believed these teasers were building up to a larger reveal, and the Super Bowl seemed like the perfect opportunity. But it looks like that won’t be happening.

It’s surprising that Spider-Man: Brand New Day won’t have a trailer during the Super Bowl. Even though it’s coming out before Doomsday, and Marvel has been advertising Doomsday, there’s been very little promotion for the new Spider-Man movie to general audiences. You’d expect a major Super Bowl trailer to build excitement for an upcoming Marvel film.

Super Bowl commercials are incredibly expensive – this year, a 30-second ad cost $10 million. Marvel may have decided that advertising during the Super Bowl wasn’t worth the money, as people are likely to see Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday regardless. Still, many Marvel fans are understandably disappointed that they didn’t get a new trailer during the game.

What Movie Trailers Are Screening During the Super Bowl

Even though Marvel isn’t planning a Super Bowl spot this year, fans of action and thriller movies still have some exciting trailers to look forward to. Lionsgate will be debuting the trailer for their Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, which comes out April 24th. And Dimension is releasing a new trailer for Scream 7, hitting theaters in February.

Disney won’t be showing any Marvel trailers right now, but they will release trailers for two upcoming movies: The Mandalorian and Grogu (coming May 22) and Pixar’s Hoppers (March 6). A trailer for Toy Story 5 (June 19) is also a possibility, though it hasn’t been officially confirmed. Other trailers planned include those for Super Mario Galaxy Movie (April 1), Minions 3 (July 1), and Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg’s new film (June 12).

Considering Spider-Man: Brand New Day wasn’t scheduled for release until July and Avengers: Doomsday until December, Marvel likely decided it was too early—and too expensive—to invest heavily in a brief trailer.
