It seems that news has surfaced about an unofficial release of a new “Batman: Arkham” game. It’s hard to believe it sometimes, but it’s been 16 years since the “Batman: Arkham” series first appeared with the launch of “Batman: Arkham Asylum” in 2009. What ensued was one of the best trilogies in video game history, comprising of “Batman: Arkham City” in 2011 and “Batman: Arkham Knight” in 2015. There was also “Batman: Arkham Origins” in 2013, though this wasn’t developed by the main series developer Rocksteady Studios, so it’s typically not included as part of the core series. Similarly, there have been some VR games since then, but no sequel to “Batman: Arkham Knight”. Unfortunately, there is still no official announcement about a sequel to “Batman: Arkham Knight”, but instead rumors of another “Batman: Arkham VR” game.
It appears we’re expecting a follow-up to the highly acclaimed “Batman: Arkham Shadow,” which was one of the virtual reality games from the Batman: Arkham series launched in 2024. Developed by Camouflaj and published by Oculus Studios, this sequel continues the storyline from 2013’s Batman: Arkham Origins and its companion game Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. Designed for Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S VR systems, the game was widely appreciated upon release, earning an 85 on Metacritic and winning the Best AR/VR Game award at The Game Awards. It also sold significantly well within the VR gaming market. Given its success, it’s not surprising to learn a sequel is in the works.
Confirmed by Voice Actor
Although an official announcement hasn’t been made yet, there are hints suggesting a sequel is in development. Mark Rolston, the voice actor for Commissioner Gordon in the game, has mentioned during an interview with Culture Combine about the “Batman Arkham Shadow VR” game that they are soon beginning work on another one.
When Will This New Batman Game Release?
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve picked up that our beloved developers have a consistent pattern when it comes to releasing sequels – they usually take four years to bring us the next installment. Following this trend, if history repeats itself, we might be seeing this sequel around the year 2028.
A Proper New Batman: Arkham Game
For individuals uninterested in VR Batman: Arkham games, here’s some exciting news: Reports suggest that a new authentic Batman: Arkham game is being developed at Rocksteady Studios. However, it’s important to note that the game is currently quite distant from release.
After everything we’ve discussed, as usual, don’t hesitate to share your thoughts with us. What features would you like to see in the next Batman: Arkham game? And if there truly is a sequel to Batman: Arkham Shadow, will you be giving it a try?”
This version maintains the original meaning while sounding more conversational and engaging.
