New Batman Game Rumor Gets Shot Down by Insider

A recent online claim about a new Batman game in development by Rocksteady Studios has been debunked by a trusted source. While a new LEGO Batman game, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, is coming from WB Games this month, reports that Rocksteady is immediately returning to the Batman franchise after the disappointing launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League appear to be inaccurate.

A rumor started on 4chan claims that Rocksteady is developing a Batman Beyond game. The post detailed that the game would be set long after Batman: Arkham Knight, featuring Terry McGinnis as Batman. However, this leak appears to be false, despite many fans wanting a game like this for years.

After a rumor started spreading online, veteran gaming journalist Jason Schreier addressed it directly on ResetEra. He stated the leak is false and has no connection to Rocksteady’s upcoming game. While he didn’t reveal what Rocksteady is working on, his reliable sources within the gaming industry suggest his denial is likely true.

Just because Rocksteady isn’t currently making a Batman Beyond game doesn’t rule out a new Batman game altogether. After the disappointing launch of Suicide Squad, it makes the most sense for Rocksteady and WB Games to go back to the Batman franchise. It’s unclear if this next game will continue the story of the Batman: Arkham series or start fresh with a completely new beginning.

No matter what’s happening behind the scenes, it looks like we won’t be hearing any news about the next Batman game from Rocksteady for a long time. Current estimates suggest the game is still several years away from release, meaning it’s likely being developed for the next generation of consoles – PlayStation 6 and the new Xbox.
