You can never have enough Batman! Right now, there are several different Batman projects in the works – including animated series, Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe, and whatever new vision James Gunn has for the character (some speculate it might involve bringing Robert Pattinson’s Batman into the larger DC Universe). Now, Reeves and Gunn are teaming up for another Batman project, which will be the first collaboration between their DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.
The upcoming animated film, Dynamic Duo from 6th & Idaho, will tell the story of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd’s beginnings as Batman’s partners, Robin. The film is being created by Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson of New Orleans-based Swaybox, who are a married couple. Mintz will also direct, with Greg Gunn and Matthew Reeves serving as producers through DC Studios and 6th & Idaho.
There’s A Lot To Look Forward To With This Project
Matt Reeves told Deadline he’s been hoping to collaborate with Arthur and Swaybox for years, and he’s thrilled their project will be Dynamic Duo, a Batman and Robin story designed for families. Reeves is known for bringing a fresh perspective to Batman, moving away from darker, more realistic versions and embracing a crime noir style with a younger Batman, as seen in The Batman and the planned sequel, The Batman II.
Okay, I just learned about Swaybox, and honestly, I’m intrigued. They’re a group of puppeteers – Arthur Mintz, Theresa Andersson, Noah Scruggs, Chris Armand, and Thomas Woodruff – who’ve been pushing the boundaries of what puppets can do since 2014. They’re not just making puppets move; they’re completely rethinking how they look and feel on screen, aiming for something truly expressive and, surprisingly, human. And get this – they’re planning to use these innovative techniques to tell the origin stories of Jason Todd and Dick Grayson, essentially bringing a fresh take on the early days of the Robins and their friendship. It sounds like a really creative way to introduce a new Dynamic Duo, and I’m definitely keeping an eye on this project!
