Bethesda, the publisher behind popular shooting games like Wolfenstein and DOOM, is hinting at a comeback for a classic franchise. The company owns many important shooting game series, including Prey and Rage, and recent updates suggest they may be bringing back a title that hasn’t been updated in over two decades.
A new trademark for the classic game Quake has been filed by Bethesda, as noticed by Timur222 on X. Originally created by id Software in 1996, Quake became a hugely influential game, spawning popular sequels like Quake 2 and Quake 3 Arena. The franchise has been relatively quiet for the last two decades, with Quake Champions in 2017 being its most recent release.
Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax Media, filed a trademark on March 3rd. The filing doesn’t reveal much information, so it’s currently unclear whether it’s for a new game or just covers the existing franchise.
Is Bethesda Bringing This Franchise Back?

The recent renewal of the Quake trademark has fans wondering if a new game is coming. It’s possible Bethesda doesn’t have any immediate plans for the series and simply wants to keep the trademark active. However, similar trademark filings have sometimes hinted at upcoming projects, so there’s a good chance this could signal a new Quake game is in the works.
If a new Quake game is being developed, it would probably be made by id Software. They’re currently creating downloadable content for last year’s DOOM: The Dark Ages, but what they’ll work on after that is still a mystery. Although id Software has suggested they plan to continue with the DOOM series, they might decide to revisit Quake instead.
