Christopher Nolan’s film “The Odyssey” and Marvel’s upcoming “Black Panther” spinoff, titled “Eyes of Wakanda“, might share more similarities than initially thought. According to a Marvel insider, there could be a significant presence of a mythical character in the animated series, with the finale potentially tying back to crucial events from the original “Black Panther” movie.
Odysseus rumored to appear in Eyes of Wakanda Black Panther series
Speculation indicates that the legendary figure Odysseus might make an appearance in Eyes of Wakanda, a Black Panther spinoff within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as suggested by a post on X (previously Twitter), which was shared by user @MyTimeToShineHello on July 30, 2025.
The post indicated that “Odysseus appears in the series ‘Eyes of Wakanda,'” and the latest episode connects back to the initial Black Panther movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), suggesting a storyline continuity between the animated show and the overall Marvel universe.
Todd Harris developed the four-part animated series “Eyes of Wakanda,” set to debut on Disney+ on August 1, 2025, marking the start of Phase Six within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This exciting show focuses on the Hatut Zaraze, a group of elite Wakandan warriors who journey through history to collect vibranium relics. The narrative traverses various time periods and unfolds within the MCU’s Sacred Timeline. The series premiere takes us back to 1260 BC during the Western Bronze Age.
On Earth-616 in the Marvel Comics universe, Odysseus governs Ithaca and holds a significant position during the Trojan War. He features prominently in storylines that revolve around the Trojan Horse, The Odyssey, and his interactions with Circe and Loki. His tale combines traditional mythology with Marvel’s expansive superhero narrative, much like Christopher Nolan’s film adaptation of The Odyssey retells the same myth for modern cinema.
According to Series Creator Todd Harris, Axis Animation is responsible for the hand-painted animation in Eyes of Wakanda. The series delves into tales from actual historical periods, frequently incorporating a unique Wakandan perspective. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the show initiates during the tail end of the Western Bronze Age, which corresponds to the timeframe usually linked with Odysseus.
This group of talented actors comprises Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Steve Toussaint, Anika Noni Rose, and Jona Xiao, along with others. Notably, Jona Xiao has shared she will be lending her voice to the character of Iron Fist. Moreover, Harris, the show’s creator, characterized it as a “spy-espionage” series that extends across different time periods.
It’s yet to be verified if Odysseus is part of the cast for the Black Panther sequel, which will debut all its episodes simultaneously on Disney+.
