Monster Hunter Wilds had a very strong start, but it’s been all downhill for it since then.
Man, this game flew off the shelves when it first came out – it broke sales records for Capcom and even for the platforms it was on! But then things started to go downhill. People, especially on PC, started running into performance issues, and suddenly sales and player numbers just dropped. It’s a shame, because it had so much potential.
Capcom recently published its financial report for the second quarter of fiscal year 2025 (according to Push Square), and the numbers reveal a significant downturn for their previously successful game.
Sales have dropped off significantly since the initial week, and now even older games in the series are selling better than this one.
At The Bottom Of The Ranking

The latest financial report shows that Monster Hunter Wilds sold approximately 637,000 copies between April and September, making it the tenth best-selling game during that period.
The game has sold 10.7 million copies in total, with over 8 million of those sales happening in just the first three days after release.
According to reports ending in July, Monster Hunter Wilds sold 477,000 copies in its first quarter. Sales then slowed significantly, with only 160,000 copies sold in the second quarter.
Monster Hunter Rise is still performing strongly, selling 643,000 copies in the first half of the year. A significant portion of those sales – 254,000 – happened in the last three months, and it continues to sell more copies than the game Wilds.
Monster Hunter Wilds wasn’t the best-selling game recently. Devil May Cry 5 topped the charts, followed by Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition and the Devil May Cry HD Collection – all likely benefited from the popularity of the Netflix series. Several Resident Evil games also made it into the top ten best-sellers.
Capcom believes Monster Hunter Wilds hasn’t performed well commercially after its release, and they attribute the disappointing sales numbers to the high cost of the PlayStation 5.
The game is still receiving mostly negative reviews on Steam, and most players believe this is due to the ongoing performance problems on PC that haven’t been fixed yet.
