Jahlani Tavai‘s family is mourning a tremendous loss.
Kalei Mau, the wife of a New England Patriots linebacker, recently revealed she suffered a stillbirth at six months of pregnancy. This occurred while she was in a medically-induced coma for six days.
The model shared on Instagram that they were planning to welcome a baby in March 2026. However, she developed a very rare blood infection, and on November 20th, doctors had to put her into a medically induced coma after finding her unresponsive.
Kalei, who shares 13-month-old daughter Honua Tavai with an NFL player, explained that her baby died in the womb due to her failing organs and a placental infection. Shortly after, she went into labor naturally, and her husband, Jahlani, was with her as she delivered the baby while she was unconscious.
The 29-year-old shared that she and Jahlani had chosen the name Ka ua Tavai for their baby, which means “the rain” in Hawaiian. She explained that, like rain, Ka ua represents growth and new life.
As Kalei said goodbye to her daughter with Jahlani, she believed a sign from the rain god, Ka ua, had appeared.
She wrote about the bittersweet moment of holding her daughter for the first and last time, just one day after being released from the hospital. She described her daughter as perfect and admitted how difficult it was to say goodbye. Surprisingly, when she stepped outside, a rain shower brought her comfort, as she felt her daughter would always remain with her in spirit.
As someone who follows wellness journeys closely, I’ve been so inspired by Kalei’s recovery at home. She recently shared some really thoughtful insights about what she’s been going through and how this challenging experience has changed her perspective – it’s been amazing to witness her healing process.
I’m just overflowing with gratitude for everything in my life. It feels like I’ve been through so much, but it’s all made my purpose crystal clear. I’ve been given a second chance to cherish my family and dedicate my life to God and my precious little Ka ua Tavai. It’s a blessing beyond words.
She was thankful for the care she received from doctors and nurses, as well as the love and encouragement from her family and friends, and Jahlani’s team.
She continued, expressing gratitude for all the prayers and sending Aloha. She thanked her New England Patriots teammates and organization for their incredible support, calling the team special and saying she was honored to be a part of it. Finally, she thanked her family – her Ohana – for remaining hopeful, faithful, and strong throughout everything, and for always being there for her.
