New Fast and Furious Movie Confirms Title and Release Date (With a Major Change)

As a huge fan of the Fast & Furious movies, I was starting to worry about where the series was headed. The last one didn’t do as well as expected, and I kept hearing about problems behind the scenes. But now we finally have some news about the next film – the title and release date are set! However, there’s a big surprise twist that’s been revealed, and honestly, it feels like it could really change things up for the whole franchise going forward.

Vin Diesel, known for his role in the Fast & Furious series, announced on Instagram that the franchise will continue beyond the current films. He shared a photo with his late co-star Paul Walker and wrote a message about their shared journey and lasting impact, revealing a release date of March 17, 2028, with the title “FAST FOREVER.” This suggests the series will continue with new installments, a shift from earlier plans for the films.

Fast Forever Could Mean The Franchise Isn’t Over

Originally, the plan for what became Fast X was to make it the first part of a two-part finale for the Fast & Furious saga. The follow-up was expected to be Fast Forever, completing the story. However, the studio later changed course and abandoned the two-part structure. Now, Fast X is generally presented as a standalone film, and Fast Forever has also been simplified as a single title.

The making of Fast X wasn’t smooth – there was a change in directors because of disagreements about the film’s direction. Despite this, the studio managed to finish the movie and even brought Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson back into the fold. The title Fast Forever is ambiguous; it could still signal the end of the Fast & Furious saga, or it could leave the door open for future installments. Ultimately, whether we see more Fast & Furious movies will likely depend on how well Fast X performs in theaters.

Despite earning $704 million worldwide, Fast X wasn’t as profitable as hoped due to production delays and a large budget. It also made less money than the previous film, F9: The Fast Saga. The success of the next installment, Fast Forever, will be crucial. If it’s as fun and exciting as previous Fast & Furious movies, more sequels could happen. However, the filmmakers might also choose to end the series with a strong finale.

Fast Forever hits theaters on March 17, 2028.
