The September 2025 Nintendo Direct presentation revealed an enticing array of upcoming games for both the Switch and Switch 2. Surprisingly, despite numerous other titles like “Resident Evil Requiem” and “Pokemon Pokopia” being leaked prior to the event, the new Fire Emblem series installment was shrouded in secrecy. However, Nintendo reserved the biggest surprise for last – the unveiling of the upcoming Fire Emblem entry.
The game Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave appears to focus on battles in an arena setting and heroic contests that drive different characters to engage in combat. In the trailer, we observe a diverse cast of new faces, yet Sothis, a returning character from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, is noticeably present at the end, hinting at potential ties to its previous edition. However, we may not gain more information for some time, as the game’s release date remains undetermined and the trailer only provides a tentative 2026 timeline.
What We Know About The New Fire Emblem Game, Fortune’s Weave
In the trailer for “Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave,” not much is revealed about the narrative and gameplay. However, it seems that the story centers around heroic contests initiated by a character referred to as the “Divine Sovereign.” The Divine Sovereign promises that the winner of these games will be granted any wish they desire. Additionally, the presence of Sothis at the end raises questions about the plot’s complexity, given her godlike abilities that leave no stone unturned. Furthermore, Sothis addresses the player as if they are familiar with her, indicating that “Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave” might be a continuation or include elements from the previous game.

The upcoming Fire Emblem game could potentially feature open-world elements, hinted by one of the characters, Cai, traversing a vast city within the game. While combat sequences are not extensive in the trailers, it’s clear that weapon durability is a factor, as well as standard attributes like range, hit rate, dodge, critical hit percentage, and attack speed.
However, an intriguing new addition to the weapons interface is a “curse” stat, accompanied by skills, Combat Arts, and Blaze Arts. These combat options appear to be key gameplay mechanics, as they are present across multiple characters displayed in the trailer.
Notably, Theodora has a “Gambit” option in combat, along with Combat Arts and Blaze Arts, while Dietrich’s brief scene shows a Combat Arts option as well. These aspects suggest that strategic planning and various abilities will play significant roles in the new Fire Emblem title.
Regrettably, the Nintendo Direct didn’t disclose any information about a possible Fire Emblem remake, however, it seems to validate earlier rumors suggesting a new Fire Emblem game is on its way to the Nintendo Switch.
I find the concept and early gameplay of Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave intriguing, and I must say that its sleek graphics and polished menu navigation leave me eager for more. The story is what really piques my interest, especially since I’m hoping they’ll continue their tradition of releasing multiple versions or routes as seen in some previous games.
One aspect of the series I’ve never been fond of is being restricted to recruiting certain characters based on the route I choose. In this new game, I sincerely hope for more player freedom, allowing us to shape our own narrative rather than sticking to a predetermined path.
