The Friday the 13th franchise is getting a new entry, but it’s not quite what fans were expecting.
Instead, a brief tribute video is being created instead of a complete feature-length movie, in honor of the 45th anniversary of the initial 1980 film.
Under the title “Sweet Revenge”, this project is generously funded by Angry Orchard Hard Cider, which forms part of an extensive partnership between the well-known hard cider brand and the renowned horror series.
Mike P. Nelson, currently engaged in reviving the chilling holiday film Silent Night, Deadly Night, takes on the directorial role for Sweet Revenge.
As a connoisseur of all things horror, I couldn’t be more thrilled that the brilliant minds behind Horror, Inc. recognized the potential in “Sweet Revenge” and decided to incorporate it into the legendary saga of Jason Voorhees.
Looking back, it’s hard to believe that three decades ago, I would sneakily try to watch these films on VHS tapes whenever I could find a quiet moment,” he went on.
It’s mind-blowing and almost unbelievable to get a chance to script and guide one of these narratives myself. And to top it off, I have the privilege of working with an exceptional team headed by Chad Villella and Brianna Lee Johnson who are helping me breathe life into this project!
The vignette offers a fresh perspective on our cherished intellectual property, providing a chilling, entertaining embrace filled with gore that rekindles the passion for these films, with plenty of grisly amusement to come!
Production kicked off earlier this month, reports Variety.
Fans were furious over news that the vignette won’t be a full-length theatrical film.
One person expressed their displeasure by saying, “What’s going on here? I can’t believe there are new Jason films after such a long hiatus of nearly 20 years.
‘They’ll do anything but put jason back on a feature film. Yikes,’ raged another.

As a connoisseur of cinematic art, let me share my thoughts: “Gosh, another short film? I’ve seen countless ones before. But what truly excites me is a fresh, innovative movie. The current cinematic universe sometimes feels like it’s running out of jokes.
A fresh new design for the character Jason Voorhees has been revealed by renowned special effects expert Greg Nicotero, which is set to feature in future installments of the Friday the 13th series.
For those who have been eagerly waiting for a fresh Friday the 13th movie, there’s some exciting news: A prequel TV series is in development and will be arriving soon instead.
Titled Crystal Lake, the series is being produced by A24 for the Peacock streaming service.
Linda Cardellini will play Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees.
Other cast members include William Catlett, Devin Kessler, and Cameron Scoggins.
Showrunner Brad Kane announced that production had officially started on the project last week.
Crystal Lake is being referred to as an “extended prequel” to the initial movie, implying it will delve deeper into the origins of both Jason and Pamela Voorhees, shedding light on their past.
